John Grady
Greetings, and thank you in advance for reading my profile. Oftentimes, simply contacting a counselor is among the most challenging steps of the counseling journey… Congratulations! I help clients to appreciate their resiliency, adaptability, and courage – which are often unappreciated or even unknown – to empower progress towards clinical goals. My approach includes working with clients to accurately diagnose obstacles to wellness and to employ evidence-based treatment approaches to remove those obstacles. I use data to estimate if my interventions are effective… my hope is to promote steady and meaningful progress every week.
First session
My expectation is to be a most dependable and empowering resource for all clients. Clients and I work together to identify obstacles to ideal wellbeing, to understand why those obstacles are present, and to positively evolve from them... and, to do so very consistently and relatively quickly!
Strengths
My experience is unusually comprehensive - I've worked in most levels of care, in many programs serving clients with myriad mental health and substance use disorder challenges, and in the majority of clinical settings. I balance my clinical work with a long history of being a graduate school educator at quality universities (e.g. New York University) and with publishing scholarly articles on diverse topics (e.g. existential psychotherapy, clinical counseling supervision). These experiences empower me with the quality insight needed to assist my clients to realize clinical progress.
Ideal clients
My ideal client is, quite simply, interested in self-discovery, developing calm and joy, and bolstering their life quality... I am grateful to work with clients of all backgrounds, interests, and goals. Clients who are working hard to excel in school, career, and/or sports may be especially interested in working with me (as my interests include guiding others to realize peak performance).
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I utilize decades of experience as a counselor, supervisor, researcher, and educator to best understand clients, establish quality goals, and create efficient routes to realize those goals. Ultimately, my hope is to establish a most sturdy trust and confidence that all is unfolding exactly as it should - a calm certainty throughout all life conditions.
Strength-Based
While I emphasize the importance of diagnosing to explain client challenges (and to develop evidence-based approaches to overcome them), my treatment is very much strength-based. Most of us do not fully appreciate our capabilities. Knowing - and utilizing - them is a vital component to clinical progress.
