Hello, I'm a Licensed Professional Counsellor (LPC) based in Texas. I received my Masters from the University of Texas Pan American (UTPA), in Edinburgh and have been practicing for eight years. I help adults (individuals and couples) facing challenging life experiences to overcome those and find joy in their lives. The first thing I will do is ask the reason for your visit and I will listen to you. Then, I will ask what goals would you like to set for yourself and based on your answer, together, we'll develop a treatment plan that is suitable and realistic for you--this may consist of learning techniques to help your manage your feelings, to help you remain calm, to help you communicate effectively, etc.
The last five years I have focused on assisting adults lead a peaceful life by helping them identify the root of their problem and teaching them techniques to handle those in an assertive way.
Are you feeling depressed, anxious, or frustrated? Feelings are your friends but they can affect you if you ignore them. I can teach you to process and communicate your feelings in a healthy way: by using coping skills that will lead to emotional regulation to allow you to find peacefulness and joy in life.
This treatment is effective when the patients invest time in learning, practicing what they learn, and doing their homework. This type of therapy consists of teaching the patients that their thoughts/perceptions, about specific events, have consequences: thoughts affect feelings, behavior, and cause a physiological reaction. I tech them techniques to increase self-awareness (mind and body) and emotional regulation.
The Bible is the main book I use to provide this method of counseling. The focus of this method is God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.
I use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) for patients with PTSD who are open to this therapeutic method.
I treat couples who have relational conflict due to miscellaneous issues such as lack of effective communication, finances, parenting styles.
I offer expressive art techniques to patients who do not have the words to express what they feel. Through drawing (guided by the provider), the patients discover what's in their heart versus what is in their mind.
