New to Grow
Greetings: I am Donnell Pinder Jr., a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor dedicated to helping individuals through life's challenges and heal from difficult experiences. I am licensed in the state of Maryland and have worked with individuals across the lifespan, with over 12 years of experience in treating anxiety, trauma, and depression. Whether you are dealing with stress, anxiety, relationship challenges, career challenges, depression, and/or simply feeling stuck. Seeking therapy can be anxiety-provoking I seek to create a safe space to support meaningful and lasting change. Lastly, together we will develop goals, use evidence-based techniques and treatment modalities in an effort to assist in overcoming individualized barriers!
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
During our first session, my priority is to ensure you feel safe, supported, and heard. We will begin by checking in on your overall well-being, assessing any immediate safety concerns to ensure you or others are not at risk, establish rapport, discuss confidentiality, hear your concerns, and develop goals for therapy. Next, we will review any submitted documents and discuss any areas that may require further attention or clarification. This allows us to move forward with a clear and thoughtful understanding of your needs.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
What distinguishes my therapeutic approach is I am able to assist clients in making dynamic revelations and insights, also known as "aha moments," in their life so that they may then take the steps forward for improvement. I am able to notice strengths easily in other people so that they may use those strengths to enhance their life. Two of my greatest strengths as a therapist is my ability to help clients connect the dots between their experiences, emotions, and patterns of thinking and also hear God's voice of counsel for clients to create and sustain change. Clients often say they appreciate my ability to deeply listen and get their concerns, offer techniques of wisdom, and speak directly to their heart to motivate change.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
Clients who tend to experience the greatest success in working with me are those who are ready to grow and open to change in their current circumstances. They know that it is more to their life than they are currently experiencing and want more. They are open to honest dialogue, want a new start and want some different strategies. I believe a willingness to reflect, challenge oneself, and take personal accountability is an important part of the therapeutic process. Therapy is a meaningful investment in your well-being. When we share the understanding that change is possible, therapy becomes a powerful opportunity for renewal and a fresh start. Together, we will establish clear, meaningful, and attainable goals tailored to your unique needs. These goals will be thoughtfully paced according to the complexity of the concerns you wish to resolve, ensuring steady and sustainable progress.
Christian Counseling
With a background in Christian Counseling, I integrate faith-based principles with clinical, evidence-based practices, such as blending cognitive behavioral techniques with scripture and prayer for those looking for a faith based counseling perspective. This modality helps clients who are looking for a biblical perspective of their situation and to hear God's voice of counsel.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
While educating clients on the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, I use the CBT modality to teach clients to identify maladaptive thought patterns, use cognitive restructuring (reframing) to change thoughts, behavioral activation, exposure therapy, and assign homework to practice skills between sessions.
Grief Therapy
My approach to grief therapy involves validating the non-linear nature of loss, utilizing structured frameworks like Worden’s Four Tasks of Mourning, the Grief Recovery Method, and Keebler Ross Stages of Grief to treat both death-related and "non-death" losses (divorce, health changes). My approach is to help clients accept the reality of loss, processing the pain, adjust to a new world, and find an enduring connection with the deceased. Key approaches used include creating rituals, using narrative tools, and allowing clients to guide the pace.
Strength-Based
Strength-based therapy in my practice involves identifying and leveraging a client's inherent skills, resilience, and resources to foster change. This is done by helping clients identify their personal, social, and environmental strengths while aligning therapeutic goals directly with identified strengths to build confidence.
Solution Focused Brief Treatment
I use solution focused brief treatment by being goal orientated and focusing on building solutions for clients for every day living.
