With over 12 years of experience in the field of psychology and mental health, my journey has led me through diverse and challenging settings, ultimately shaping me into the therapist I am today. My career began in inpatient treatment facilities, where I gained invaluable insights into the complex interplay of substance abuse and mental health disorders. Witnessing the resilience and strength of those facing such challenges inspired me to delve deeper into the realm of psychology and trauma therapy.
The first session is a time for us to build rapport and comfort while also getting a good idea of the issues that have led the client to receive therapy. This is also a good time to gather information requiring history of client to have a better understanding of a psychodynamic approach and making connections to present difficulties. The first session allows us to create a unique and individualized treatment plan upon the next session and set appropriate goals.
Due to my experience in working with diverse populations, I have grown into an eclectic approach to therapy and utilize a wide range of techniques to tailor an approach that is individualistic and unique to the client.
I love working with clients who are motivated to change and open and receptive to feedback. I find that clients who enjoy growth and building rapport with their clinician create an environment that is enjoyable and powerful in achieving goals and decreasing negative symptoms of mental health challenges.
I utilize EMDR treatment to assist in the reprocessing trauma and assist in the treatment of anxiety, PTSD, OCD and phobias.
I believe that empowering natural traits and strengths can assist in building self esteem and motivation to reach goals and decrease symptoms.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy can assist in addressing thought distortions that impact symptoms.
The four Pilars of DBT assist in emotional regulation, communication, distress tolerance and mindfulness. Utilizing an eclectic approach assists clients in decreasing symptoms and meeting goals usually encompasses some of the skills from DBT due to the flexibility of skills and range of treatment.
By focusing on the lifespan with the client, I have found valuable insight is gained from shedding light on how certain traits are established and how to allow for processing of shame.
