I hold a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Master of Science in Clinical Counseling, both from Texas A&M University. For more than 26 years, I’ve been licensed by the State of Texas as a Licensed Professional Counselor and Approved Supervisor (#14952). Life often unfolds as a story—beautiful yet unpredictable—full of turns that shape who we are. Within that story, however, there are chapters that leave us feeling broken. Fears can grow into shadows that whisper doubts about our worth and happiness. Sometimes we become trapped by the weight of the past, lost in depression, or caught in the anxiety of an uncertain future. Yet real change begins only in the present moment. Perhaps you’re wrestling with loneliness, abandonment, or simply struggling to find direction. I understand these struggles because I’ve walked through them myself. At the core of our lives are relationships—with family, friends, or colleagues. They have the power to uplift and strengthen us, but they can also drain and diminish us. Establishing healthy boundaries is essential for fostering respect, independence, and a secure sense of self. For many, childhood within a dysfunctional family system meant survival required adapting unhealthy coping strategies. While these patterns may have helped us endure, they can later hinder our ability to build deep, healthy adult relationships. Without positive role models to guide us, navigating life’s complexities can feel overwhelming and isolating.
In our first session together, you can expect a warm, welcoming environment where your comfort and confidentiality are my top priorities. I begin with a gentle icebreaker to help ease any initial nerves and start building rapport. We’ll also review practical matters such as scheduling, fees, and paperwork, while giving you the opportunity to share your expectations, concerns, and hopes for therapy. Once we’re settled, our conversation shifts toward exploring the reasons that brought you to therapy and the goals you’d like to achieve. I encourage open dialogue and active participation, creating a collaborative space where you feel empowered to share your thoughts, feelings, and experiences without fear of judgment. Together, we begin looking at your personal history—important life events, relationships, and recurring patterns—that may be shaping your current challenges. My approach is person-centered, meaning I tailor each session to your unique needs and preferences. Drawing from a variety of evidence-based modalities—including cognitive-behavioral therapy, psychodynamic approaches, and mindfulness-based techniques—I work alongside you to develop insight, strengthen self-awareness, and explore new possibilities for growth and healing. A central focus of this first meeting is establishing a strong therapeutic alliance. Trust, empathy, and mutual respect form the foundation of our work together, allowing you to reflect, process, and move forward at a pace that feels right for you. Ultimately, this initial session sets the stage for our therapeutic journey. It is a time to voice your concerns, set intentions, and begin the process of self-discovery and personal transformation. My commitment is to walk alongside you with compassion, encouragement, and steady support every step of the way.
Relationships surround us—whether with family, friends, or coworkers. The quality of these connections profoundly shapes how we feel about ourselves. Healthy boundaries are essential; they allow us to feel respected, empowered, independent, and grounded in our own identity. However, many of us grew up in family systems where dysfunction was the norm. As children, we often developed coping strategies that helped us survive at the time but no longer serve us as adults. What once protected us may now stand in the way of building strong, healthy relationships. For some, the pain is even deeper, stemming from being hurt by the very people who were meant to keep us safe. My goal is to provide a safe, supportive space where you can explore the relationships in your life and begin to set boundaries with greater intention. Together, we will work to replace survival strategies with healthier patterns—so you can move toward relationships that foster respect, trust, and growth.
