Hi, I’m Charles Yin, I work with men and women who struggle with depression, anxiety, and self-sabotaging patterns. This prevents them from feeling connected to themselves and others and from reaching their full potential. I firmly believe everyone can live a meaningful and fulfilling life. After working with clients for over 16 years, I understand the difficulties of finding your path in life and use my expertise to help you overcome these challenges. How do I help you? There are 3 key ingredients: I utilize Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which helps you become friends with your difficult thoughts and feelings and make wise choices even when it's hard. I help you connect deeply with the real you and develop a sense of belonging with others. I help you get out of your mind and into your life and develop skills to unhook from difficult thoughts and feelings, stay present and do what matters.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, we will get to better know one another, answer any of your questions as well as explain how this process works. We'll discuss what is bringing you into therapy now and get some background information. Finally we'll start collaborate on a flexible plan/outline for your therapy: what specific goals you want to work on, estimate # of sessions, and road-mapping out how to get there.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Compassion, competence, genuine kindness, warmth, empathy, passion, knowledge, flexible, creative.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I love working with clients who want to not only get better but to serve others and live meaningfully. I often work with Christians and those who have a faith orientation but anyone that wants to live for something bigger than themselves is welcome and has the seeds to live more fully and meaningfully. I love working with athletes and those who are willing to both dialogue and to practice and experiment with skills outside of session.

My treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

ACT teaches us psychological skills to handle painful thoughts and feelings in such a way that they have much less impact and influence on us. ACT helps us clarify what is truly meaningful and essential to us —that is, our values— and use that knowledge to guide, inspire, and motivate us to set goals and take action that enriches our lives. ACT empowers us to start living fully now: ACT challenges the assumption, you must get rid of your symptoms before you can live a better life. In our imperfect world, even our best moments will never be perfectly symptom-free. Waiting until things are perfect guarantees perpetual dissatisfaction via grass-is-greener syndrome. The truth is, whatever situation you are going through, you will experience BOTH pain AND at the same time you can still live fully, vibrantly, with joy and peace. It’s BOTH/AND and not EITHER/OR.

Christian Counseling

Utilize what is helpful from psychology while fixing our eyes and heart on God who from which flow all good things, including deep meaning, hope, and true healing power in the midst of life's pain and suffering.

Compassion Focused

We are all humans tied together by the core yearnings of competency, coherence, belonging, feeling, orientation, and self-directed meaning. Learning to have compassion towards yourself and other people is the difference between journeying through life with friends vs. enemies as companions.

Positive Psychology

Life is not about merely getting by or surviving. Sure, that's a good first step, but once you have gotten out of an immediate crisis and your psychological life is not threatened, all of us yearn not to simply survive but to thrive. Focusing on harnessing gratitude, love, joy, hope, positivity, excellence--take us from surviving to thriving.
