(she/her)
Welcome! I'm Julia Lieberman. People want to have meaning and direction in their lives. Yet, sometimes this can be obscured due to stress, anxiety and/or depression and can result in behaviors that keep people from living their most fulfilled life. My passion is helping people live more meaningful lives. I have experience helping with people who have trauma, anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, self-harm, low self-esteem, life transitions, and substance use disorders. Although I offer services to all ages, I primarily work with teens and young adults, and adults.
The first session will be an intake, where I will go in-depth to learn about current issues that you are facing, and how your past and current situation affects your attempt to deal with these issues. Once I get to know more about you, we work together to tailor an effective therapeutic approach to your specific needs and set achievable goals.
I have many years of experience with various populations and diagnoses. I mostly work with young adults, but enjoy all ages. I like to challenge my patients, but in a way that is therapeutic and compassionate.
Welcome! I'm Julia Lieberman. Please take a moment to acknowledge that you are taking your first step to empower yourself in your personal growth by starting the therapy process. And, I am very excited to work with you on this journey. I strive to create a safe and welcoming environment that allows patients to explore issues related to anxiety, depression, life transitions and/or substance abuse. I focus on helping patients develop assertive communication & boundaries with themselves and those around them that can help improve their quality of life. I also work with patients to develop healthier ways to frame their self-narrative, in order for them to live a more appreciative and authentic life. I look forward to working with you!
I’ve been using CBT as the primary treatment method in my practice since the beginning. This method of therapy helps clients challenge core beliefs and replace negative self-talk/intrusive thoughts with helpful, more compassionate ways of thinking. This in turn changes unhealthy patterns of thinking and behaviors to allow the person to live a fuller more present life.
This method of treatment focuses on radical acceptance, mindfulness and clarifying values to help patient's face emotional pain with less fear/avoidance.
I have used skills from DBT for many of my patients, especially those with personality traits, and in general, for patient's that struggle navigating interpersonal relationships.
Making meaningful changes in your life is not easy, especially when you are used to using unhealthy coping mechanisms to deal with stressors (i.e.: alcohol, cutting, etc.). Motivational interviewing has been instrumental in assisting my patients find the motivation to change behaviors that then lead to healthy ways of dealing with life stressors.
