Whitney Wilfred
I’m Whitney Wilfred, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, but you can call me Whit. I believe therapy can be a space where you no longer have to carry everything alone. I work with adults, particularly women who are used to being the strong one—the nurturer, the achiever, the one everyone depends on—but who may be quietly navigating anxiety, trauma, relationship challenges, life transitions, or feeling disconnected from themselves. My approach is warm, honest, compassionate, and collaborative. I draw from EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), CBT, and DBT while creating space to explore not only what you’re experiencing, but what may be underneath it. I’m especially passionate about supporting Black and Brown women as they heal, build confidence, strengthen relationships, reconnect with themselves, and move from simply surviving life to living it more fully. And while I’ll bring my clinical experience into the room, I also believe you are the expert on your own life. My role is to come alongside you as we make room for healing, growth, and the version of you that may have gotten buried underneath everything you’ve had to carry.
First session
Our first session is really about getting to know you—not just what brought you to therapy, but who you are and what matters to you. There’s no pressure to have the right words or tell me everything at once. We’ll talk about what’s been going on, what you hope will be different, and begin creating a path forward together. My hope is that you leave feeling heard, a little lighter, and confident that this is a space where you can truly be yourself.
Strengths
I bring warmth, authenticity, curiosity, and a little humor into the therapy room. I’m comfortable sitting quietly with you when you need space to feel and process, but I’ll also lovingly challenge you when I notice patterns that may be keeping you stuck. My own life experiences have taught me that healing isn’t always linear or pretty, so you can expect a space where you can show up honestly, without needing to have it all together.
Ideal clients
You may be a young adult trying to figure out who you are and what’s next, or an adult navigating relationships, family, career changes, parenthood, trauma, or a new season of life. Maybe you’re tired of carrying so much, repeating the same patterns, or simply know something needs to change. You don’t have to come to therapy with it all figured out. Come as you are—ready to be curious, honest, supported, and sometimes lovingly challenged.
Treatment methods
EMDR
I use EMDR to help clients process painful experiences, memories, and beliefs that may still be impacting how they feel, relate, or respond today. We move at a pace that feels safe and manageable, building tools and trust before processing deeper experiences. The goal isn’t to erase what happened, but to help it have less power over how you see yourself and live your life today.
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
I use IFS to help you get curious about the different “parts” of yourself—the part that overthinks, shuts down, people-pleases, stays busy, gets angry, or feels like it has to hold everything together. Rather than judging or trying to get rid of these parts, we work to understand what they may be protecting and what they need. This can help you respond to yourself with more compassion, clarity, and choice instead of feeling controlled by old patterns.
Faith based therapy
For clients who desire it, I offer space to thoughtfully integrate Christian faith into the therapeutic process. This may include exploring how your relationship with God, Scripture, prayer, identity, or spiritual beliefs intersect with what you’re experiencing. Faith integration is always client-led—I want therapy to be a place where you can bring your whole self, including your faith, while also making room for honest questions, struggles, and growth.
Trauma Informed Care
I approach therapy with the understanding that many of the ways we think, feel, respond, and relate to others have been shaped by what we’ve experienced. Rather than asking, “What’s wrong with you?” we get curious about “What happened to you, and what did you learn to do to survive?” Together, we create space for safety, understanding, and healing while helping you build new ways of responding that fit who you are becoming.
