About me

I'm a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC) located in Florida. I provide telehealth counseling in Florida and Vermont. I have worked with teens and adults who may be struggling with feeling overwhelmed, stressed, nervous, or hopeless. My counseling style is pretty casual and conversational. I have been described as laid back, open minded, easy going, understanding, supportive, and a good sense of humor. I am a non-judgmental, safe space for you to be open and honest about the hard stuff.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first session together, my first goal is to create a comfortable and safe space where you can openly express yourself without judgment. We'll start by getting to know each other, discussing your reasons for seeking therapy, and exploring your goals and expectations for our time together. I'll provide an overview of how therapy works and answer any questions or concerns you may have. We'll also discuss confidentiality and the therapeutic process, so that you feel informed and empowered throughout. Our initial session may involve some assessment or exploration of your background and current challenges to help me gain a deeper understanding of your unique experiences that have led to where you are now. By the end of our first session, you can expect to have a clearer understanding of what therapy entails and how it can benefit you. Together, we'll lay the groundwork for our future sessions and begin working towards positive change and growth in your life.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

My greatest strengths are my ability to empathize, listen deeply, and create a supportive environment where clients feel valued and understood. I approach therapy with compassion, authenticity, and a genuine desire to help others navigate life's challenges and achieve their goals. I want to build a strong therapeutic relationship based on trust, respect, and collaboration, recognizing that each person is unique and deserving of personalized care. I use a variety of evidence-based techniques and interventions to modify treatment to the specific needs and preferences of each client. I'm committed to ongoing learning and professional development, staying informed about the latest research and best practices in the field, allowing me to continuously refine my skills and adapt my approach to better serve the ever changing needs of my clients. Overall, I believe my strengths as a provider lie in my genuine compassion for others, my dedication to fostering growth and healing, and my commitment to providing high-quality, client-centered care.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I love working with both teens and adults who are dealing with life's challenges. Sometimes it can be hard for people to pinpoint exactly why they are feeling the way they feel, so part of therapy is working on unraveling those emotions and exploring past situations. I use virtual therapy and have a flexible schedule.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I utilize techniques from CBT to help clients evaluate thinking patterns that may be inaccurate or harmful and work to change those thoughts to more rational and helpful thoughts, which can create lasting change in feelings and behaviors.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I use techniques from DBT to help clients explore their thought patterns and strategies they use to manage intense emotions. DBT can help to accept the waves of emotions and learn ways to tolerate big feelings and work through intense situations.

EMDR

Using guided eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation, I will help you reframe and integrate upsetting or distressing memories in a way that reduces their emotional charge and helps you heal.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

Solution focused brief treatment has the aim of identifying a concern and finding strategies to work towards solving the problem. Many times, people enter therapy feeling overwhelmed or hopeless, and solution focused brief treatment can help to alleviate some of those feelings in order to create a plan for meaningful change.

Trauma-Focused CBT

Trauma focused CBT examines the belief systems that prevent a person from healing from an overwhelming or scary event(s). Using trauma informed care, I will gently and compassionately guide a person through processing their past in a safe and supportive environment.

Aloha, Sarah has helped me to understand the anxiety I was having, and provided me a path (CBT path) to alleviate the anxiety and the anger that accompanied the anxiety, which I didn't know was related. She showed me how my past had influenced me, as she asked questions about any uncomfortable situations I've had. As I answered, I realized that those situations in my distant past had influences 50 years after they happened. Sarah has given me tools to live better. Mahalo Sarah. Aloha
