About me

Howdy! I am a therapist based in West Texas. I work in a university setting, but also provide virtual mental health counseling for Texas residents on evenings and weekends. I primarily work with adolescents, emerging adults, and young professionals on improving self-image, anxiety, depression, identity, and relationships. I value working with folks from all walks of life; "y'all means all." I've been working in collegiate mental health and marital/relational counseling for 8 years. I graduated from Texas Tech University with a Masters of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy, and I have the privilege to train and supervise student therapists. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion education is an important part of my professional identity. Our cultural experiences, values, beliefs, and identities are central to who we are and important aspects of our social and emotional health. Outside of work, I am a nerd who enjoys comedy, sci-fi, fantasy, video games, and anime. Most of my down time is spent reading, playing games with friends, and spending time with my 8 year old Australian Shepherd mix, Joan Rivers.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first session we will identify some specific goals for therapy and discuss what approaches might work best specifically for you. I like to get a good sense of who you are, how you relate to the important people in your life, your background, values, and daily routine.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

Social justice is an important part of my work and how I live my life. I'm non-judgemental and calm, but I also value authenticity, humor, levity, and connection. I help my clients to extend kindness, grace, and compassion to themselves as they work toward therapy goals.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I enjoy working with young professionals, emerging adults, and romantic partners as they feel stuck or navigate major life changes. My individual clients often find relief from perfectionism, procrastination, self-criticism, conflict, isolation, depression, and/or anxiety. I help folks explore and choose how family relationships contribute to how we see ourselves and others. I have a specialized interest in working with folks whose parents, siblings, or partners struggle(d) with alcohol and drug use.

I just completed my first session with John, and he made a strong impression right away. He was very attentive, listened closely, and showed genuine interest in what I was sharing. Even in a single session, his presence felt engaged and supportive, which made it easy to open up. I appreciated how focused and grounded he was throughout our conversation.
