LPC, 17 years of experience
Hello! I am Amanda, counselor of 17 years, wife of 19 years, and mother for 12 years and counting. I have been a resident of the North Austin area for the last five years and am a Texas native, though I did spend some time growing up in the beautiful mountains of Colorado. I am active in my son’s school, my church and my community which I am happy to call home. I have worked in domestic violence shelters, residential programs for children, with Child Protective Services, and in Private Practice. For many years I have had the privilege of joining my clients in the process of change. We go through so much in our lives. Love, loss, stress and anxieties shape who we are. I respect the courage that it takes to look at these things and seek growth and change.
First sessions are a change for us to get to know each other. I take the opportunity to discuss with you what you are looking for in therapy and answer any questions you might have, and ensure that I am a good fit for what you are looking for in a therapist.
I am registered with the American Society of Reproductive Medicine behavioral health division- specializing in counseling those going through infertility and loss. I also work with those considering adoption, and those going through pregnancy and child loss. I am trained as a Christian/Biblical therapist and practice such upon request. I enjoy working with teens, preteens and women in all stages of their lives.
Preteens, Teens, Women, Adults and Seniors, Clients from all religious backgrounds and beliefs are welcome. Specialized training in Christian therapy.

I love that she listens and does not judge. She gives suggestions and ideas of how to deal with my problem/ situation without telling me what to do. It's like talking to a friend, a very wise smart friend that understands the humans.

I have been seeking therapy services on and off for a great deal of my life due to trauma early on in my childhood and subsequent addition issues. Amanda is a breath of fresh air and the fact that we share a faith in Christianity was a bonus and rare to find in the traditional counseling world. Great match and she was very helpful in finding a solution in our first session not just a get to know you session.
Amanda Durst, MA offers therapy covered by UnitedHealthcare/Optum - Medicaid in Texas.
I have utilized attachment theory for many years in working with children, families and in understanding how ones childhood impacts them as an adult. I have a specialized certificate for my studies in attachment and bonding. I have conducted attachment and bonding assessments for use in adoption, infertility and court appointed cases.
Cognitive Behavioral therapy is the root of my practice. The heart of CBT is that if you can change the way you think about an issue it will lead to changes in how you feel, and this can be utilized to benefit self esteem, depression, trauma, anxiety, and to garner self understanding to name a few.
Faith based therapy is where my heart lies, I have a MA in Religion and believe that ones faith should be an integral part of their healing and understanding of self.
I have trained in the Gottman method for marriage therapy and continue to continue my training in this area. I find the Gottman method to be well researched, applicable and easy to apply for most couples.
