My name is Amy, I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) based in El Dorado Hills, California. I work with clients statewide via Telehealth. In my years as a Marriage and Family Therapist, I have worked with individuals of all ages, from diverse cultural backgrounds and with a broad spectrum of struggles impacting their life. My practice is based on a foundation of providing a warm and compassionate attitude into my work with individuals, and being especially attuned to providing a safe, non-judgmental space.
My therapeutic approach includes evidenced based practices (modalities such as CBT, DBT, and TF-CBT) and tailored interventions and sessions specific to the need of each individual. In an initial session we can discuss your goals for therapy which will also allow you to get an idea of my therapeutic approach and if it is a good fit for you.
My communication style and approach to therapy are personable and warm, and I work to provide caring support and guidance to clients to assist them with working through struggles bringing them into therapy.
My practice includes work with adults and adolescents struggling with depression, anxiety, self-doubt, relationships issues, stress, trauma, grief, and navigating through personal growth and change.
CBT is a focus of my therapeutic approach as an effective and evidence-based treatment. In addition to a person-centered focus to my work with clients in which we explore the struggles brining someone into therapy and working to gain insights and awareness, having the tools/interventions with CBT to assist in implementing change and can be especially helpful for treating issues related to anxiety and/or depression (for example - working to quiet anxious thoughts or challenge negative and self-defeating beliefs).
DBT can be especially helpful if you are struggling with managing and regulating heavy or big emotions. DBT helps those that can get stuck in black and white thinking, can become reactive and need some helpful tools to manage distress, or assist with their interactions/communication with others. DBT, when appropriate fit, can easily and organically weave into my core person-centered therapeutic approach for greater positive impact and gains in therapy.
Being a trauma informed therapist means providing an approach to therapy that is based on the understanding of how trauma works. The goal is to create a safe inclusive environment and aims to build on client’s strengths and resilience.
