Hi, I’m Cherisse, an LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor). For the past 17 years I have helped clients through trauma, anxiety, depression, criminality, addiction, and low self-esteem. I enjoy getting to know my clients and employing strategies based on your individual needs. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is the primary theoretical umbrella under which I work, as well as Strengths-Based, Positive Psychology, and Person-Centered. I look forward to getting to know you and helping you find what works for you.
First sessions can feel awkward, but they don’t have to be. This is just a time for us to get to know each other. I will start by ensuring you understand the documents that you signed previous to coming to your first session; information like privacy and confidentiality. Then I give an introduction to myself and background. Afterwards I like to open the floor to my client to tell me what brings them to therapy. I may ask if you would be okay with completing question and answer forms so that I can gain more detail on how I can help. My intention is for you to leave the first session with hope and a sense of confidence in my professional services. I also want you to feel comfortable about returning to the next session.
I have been told my primarily strength is making people feel cared for and understood. I get good reviews for making people feel at ease and that I am competent to treat their issues. I encourage my clients to have direct, honest communication with me. Many of my clients have appreciated that they can correct me if I misinterpret something or let me know if they are not interested in a treatment option I offer. Therapy can be difficulty enough that I want to ensure the process of getting it isn’t.
Cherisse Guerrero offers therapy covered by UnitedHealthcare/Optum - Medicaid in Texas.
CBT is the primary therapeutic umbrella under which I work. During our sessions I look for patterns in behavior and thoughts and share this insight with my clients. Recognizing patterns can help clients see where they can work to make helpful changes.
Although I may be a mental health expert, I believe you are the expert on you. I also believe in "nothing for you, without you" meaning we develop your goals and treatment together. I am here to listen and help you facilitate your own recovery and healing.
Everyone has strengths and those strengths can be used to help heal and recover from areas of weakness.
