I am a bilingual English-Japanese Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and Licensed Counselor Addiction Specialist. I received a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a concentration in Addictions Counseling in 2018 at Appalachian State University. I have worked in a residential substance use treatment facility as a counselor. My approach to counseling is based on Person-Centered theory. My goal as a counselor is to support the process of self-discovery and to enrich the lives of others.
In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, then I will make sure to provide a safe space for you to be able to talk freely. And then dive into the specific challenges you're facing. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.
I will listen. With my personal background, I am well aware of multicultural concerns.
I work with individuals with a wide range of issues including co-occurring, addiction, depression, anxiety, stress management, identity development, low self-esteem, trauma, and relational conflicts.
Cognitive Behavioral approach is a way of focusing on the cognitive processes that produce feelings. This approach helps by changing people’s behavior and attitudes with a deeper understanding of thoughts, images, beliefs, and attitudes.
My Person-Centered approach is to support the process of self-discovery and the power that exists within each person. There are risks and benefits associated with counseling and therapy. In order to gain awareness, an individual might experience a range of emotions, such as uncomfortable levels of sadness, guilt, anxiety, anger or frustration, and challenges being explored in the therapeutic relationship. I will listen and attempt to create a safe space in which he/she feels comfortable to share their story without judgment.
Motivational Interviewing is a collaborative, goal-oriented style of communication. As a counselor, I will help individual find their own motivation to change their behavior.
