My name is Vincent Egbuchulam, and I am a licensed professional counselor with over five years of experience in the mental health field. I address issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, substance abuse, teen issues, anger and stress management, life transitions, aggression, and ADHD. In addition, I am a retired board-certified Special Education teacher with 15 years of experience. My counseling approach integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). CBT involves helping clients learn and practice new skills, develop healthier thinking patterns, and adopt more effective coping strategies. I may assign homework to reinforce the skills we work on during sessions, as I believe that applying these techniques in your daily life enhances their effectiveness. SFBT operates on the principle that individuals are competent and capable of finding solutions to improve their lives. In our sessions, you will have the opportunity to describe your challenges, set personal goals, and provide feedback. Occasionally, I may incorporate other techniques, such as role-playing, if they are beneficial for your progress. I am committed to supporting those who seek to enhance their emotional well-being. During our initial visit, we will discuss your reasons for seeking therapy and outline what you hope to achieve from our sessions. The first session typically lasts about an hour. You can expect a highly professional, objective, nonjudgmental, and confidential experience.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

aims to help people manage mental health issues by identifying and challenging unhelpful thought patterns, and then learning practical strategies to change their behaviors and improve their emotional well-being; This therapy has helped my clients restructure their cognitive distortions

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is a type of therapy that focuses on finding solutions to problems rather than exploring the causes or history of the issues. It is a goal-directed, future-focused approach that emphasizes the strengths, resources, and potential of individuals, rather than dwelling on past difficulties. I have been using collaborative approach with my clients. The therapist and client work together as partners. The therapist uses open-ended questions to help the client explore solutions, rather than giving direct advice or interventions.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

a type of psychotherapy that focuses on teaching individuals skills to manage intense emotions, improve interpersonal relationships, tolerate distress, and change harmful behaviors. I aim to strike a balance between accepting current emotional states and behaviors while working toward change, using the concept of dialectics — the idea that two seemingly opposite things (acceptance and change) can coexist.

Psychoeducation

The goal of psychoeducation is to empower individuals by increasing their knowledge, improving self-awareness, and providing practical tools for managing mental health challenges. It can cover topics like stress management, emotion regulation, cognitive distortions, and how different behaviors and thoughts affect mental well-being. Additionally, psychoeducation can involve teaching family members or support networks how to best support the individual during treatment

Motivational Interviewing

a client-centered counseling approach that aims to help individuals resolve ambivalence about change by eliciting and supporting their own motivation to make positive life changes, It's often used in situations where people are hesitant to make changes like with substance abuse or health behaviors.
