Greetings! My name is David Burgess, and I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in North Carolina, dedicated to empowering teens, adults, and couples as they navigate challenges related to depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, and other life obstacles. My approach focuses on recognizing, understanding, and transforming the thoughts and behaviors that may contribute to spiritual, psychological, physical, and social distress.
Our first meeting will be a free video consultation lasting 15 to 30 minutes. During this time, we will get to know each other and discuss the challenges that led you to seek care. If we agree we are a good match, our second meeting will be a formal intake assessment. Before scheduling regular follow-up sessions, we will develop a plan to work together as a team to help you achieve your treatment goals.
My clinically flexible, holistic, and integrative approach to enhancing my clients' overall well-being is what sets my practice apart. My passion for helping others thrive shines through in the compassion I extend to those I serve, and I create a non-judgmental and safe space where my clients are truly heard and respected, no matter their beliefs or background.
An individual’s physical, mental, social, and spiritual health are all interconnected and influence each other. Therefore, my therapeutic approach is clinically flexible, holistic, and integrative. It is a form of psychotherapy that combines biblical and spiritual principles with evidence-based therapeutic approaches that align with biblical truth. This combination of psychology, theology, and spirituality empowers my clients to bring their complete selves to counseling, allowing them to explore how they can use their unique strengths and personal faith-based values and practices to support them in reaching their goals. My approach emphasizes recognizing, understanding, and modifying problematic thoughts and behaviors that contribute to spiritual, psychological, physical, and social distress. The decision to incorporate faith-based values and practices in treatment varies among clients, so I always fully support and respect clients in making an informed decision on this matter, regardless of their personal beliefs or background. Your identity in Christ is not something that you take off when you enter the counseling room. What your faith says about your unique situation matters, and we will look to that as the standard and chief guide in helping you reach your goals.
Our thoughts influence our behaviors, and vice versa. As we work together to change any problematic thoughts and behaviors that may be causing you distress, we will thoroughly explore and gain a better understanding of how they impact each other.
As we journey together, we will explore and uncover how you can use conscious and unconscious motivators to assist you in standing firm as you pursue your goals.
