New to Grow
I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist #101011 with a primary focus on BIPOC folks of all genders and those in the LGBTQIA+ community. As a Black, transgender, and queer therapist, I understand the need for someone who identifies similarly and has a deeper understanding of the issues marginalized communities face. I strive to make sure every client is heard and understood.
The first session with me is spent getting to know you as a whole person, and not just what you're bringing into therapy. I strive to build rapport from the very first session until completion of services. I do my best to create a safe and warm environment for any and all of my clients.
My greatest strengths are creating a safe and warm environment for my clients, rapport building, building relationship, providing helpful feedback in the moment, skill building, and gently challenging negative schemas and beliefs.
My primary focus is on BIPOC folks of all genders and those in the LGBTQIA+ community. I enjoy working with clients that have had a negative experience with a provider and are looking to try “one more time”. I work well with clients that are on the cusp of finding a reason to do things differently as well as clients that are motivated to change.
Other specialties
I identify as
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use CBT to help my clients understand how their thoughts and feelings influence behaviors, as well as how to identify and modify behavioral patterns that are no longer serving the same purpose.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
When a client is struggling to find effective ways of coping with distressing events or behaviors, I use DBT in order to help build upon healthy coping skills and behaviors that are already present by building additional skills.
EMDR
As an EMDR trained therapist, I utilize this method to help clients reprocess past events as well as build appropriate skills to continue processing outside of sessions.
Gender-affirming therapy
As a transgender man, every aspect of my gender affirming care is about providing support, a safe place to explore, and feedback. My goal is to help my clients find and make the best decision for themselves, whatever that might look like.
Eclectic
I do not believe therapy is “one size fits all”. Because of this, I tend to pull from multiple treatment methods, using the appropriate interventions and techniques for the client, in the moment.
