New to Grow
Hi there! Thank you for taking the time to look at my page! Finding the right therapist can be a daunting process. So, my hope is that I can do my part to help you to feel comfortable...remove some of the awkwardness from the process...and ideally, have you feeling motivated and excited about starting your therapeutic journey! A little bit about me and how I approach the therapeutic process... Without question, one of the comments I hear most from clients is that they're always surprised by how much they actually ENJOY our sessions —even when working through some of their most difficult challenges. I jokingly tell people that my "superpower" is that I'm really good at making therapy feel like a great conversation between two people - and one of those people just HAPPENS to be a therapist who helps you work through the things that are keeping you stuck. Therapy should make you feel as though you are getting something out of this...and that you are growing, healing - and thriving - because of it. I've been fortunate to be able to help people from all walks of life and what I have learned is that regardless of background, culture, socioeconomic status, or life circumstances, people want many of the same things—meaningful relationships, resilience through life's challenges, and a sense of purpose/fulfillment. So, whether you're facing personal challenges, professional pressures, or both, my goal is to help you get on the path where you can finally feel like you not only have a handle on this thing called Life - but that you are THRIVING in it!
I know how intimidating and awkward the first session can be. You're expected to tell the most sensitive and vulnerable parts of your life to a complete stranger - and somehow trust that this person will be able to help you...not judge you...be a knowledgeable professional - while also making sure that this person is not cold, unfeeling or distant. Who wants to do that?! In our first session, we're going to do an Intake Assessment, which is essentially me asking you questions that will provide me with a "snapshot" of who you are. You don't have to worry about saying or doing anything "wrong"...there's no such thing. It's just two people getting to know each other and starting the process of figuring out how we can help you address the things that brought you to therapy. In that session, I will go out of my way to ensure that you feel comfortable; and don't be surprised if you find yourself smiling - and even laughing -during the Intake session, because laughter is one of the best ice breakers and is incredibly healing! While the laughter is primarily meant to make you feel more at ease, rest assured, that the priority is to work on the issues that you are struggling with - and that we are going to be doing the serious work that is intended to be done. Additionally, I'd like to believe that when you leave that first session, you will leave motivated and hopeful about your therapeutic journey.
We all have our strengths and weaknesses. I'd like to say that my strength is that I don't make therapy sessions feel like therapy. I take great pride in my ability help clients tap into their strengths and to discover a version of themselves that they didn't know they could be - or that they have forgotten about. When people have spent so many years struggling, it's sometimes hard to see hope, potential, possibilities or happiness. My strength is that I am really good at helping people becoming more self-aware of their behavioral patterns and automatic thoughts and assisting them with identifying their strengths - even if they are struggling to believe that they have any. People aren't perfect...the world isn't perfect...but regardless of what is happening around you - or to you - I can definitely help you address what's happening WITHIN you.
I work extremely well with clients who struggle with any of the following: -Anxiety, OCD (Do you struggle with racing thoughts? Have trouble sleeping? Feeling so overwhelmed that you find yourself procrastinating or feeling paralyzed by the anxiety/stress?) -Trauma/PTSD -Depression, history of self-harming (Do you struggle with feelings of hopelessness/hopelessness? Staying bed? Isolating? Struggling with low or no self-esteem?) -Victims of Domestic Abuse (Do you feel as though you keep finding yourself in toxic relationships? Are you in a relationship in which you are not happy but don't know how to even begin exploring solutions?) -Substance use and other addiction disorders -Anger issues (Do you feel as though you are always arguing, "exploding" at other people and feeling as though people are always disrespecting you? Do you want to find a better way to express your emotions but just don't know how?) -Relationship issues -Bipolar and other related disorders -Workplace stress, burnout (Do you become depressed or anxious the day before the start of the work week and just want to "hide" or stay home?" -History of incarceration and struggling with reentry back to the community If any of the above issues or circumstances sound like your situation, please know that we can navigate through this! All you have to do is take that first step...and you will already be heading in the right direction.
I identify as
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is essentially the notion that a person's thoughts impact their emotions and behaviors. I help clients to become more aware of those negative beliefs that keep them stuck and we work together to reframe them - which then results in a more effective way of responding to people, situations and things.
Multicultural
Many clients will express that there are aspects about who they are, their circumstances or their experiences that play an integral role in understanding and defining them. It is important that I honor and integrate this information into the therapeutic journey because it makes the process much more individualized and meaningful.
