Hello, my name is Dormetra and I am a LPC and certified Sandtray Therapist in Houston, Texas. It has been my dream to become a licensed therapist and I am so excited to walk alongside you as you work through your life experiences. Are you dealing with stress and anxiety or possibly depression? Making the decision to begin therapy is a huge one which can be scary for some and maybe seem weird for others. I understand these things and I am here to walk with you and be with you as you explore these feelings while looking for solutions. Do you have children and teens who are difficult to talk to or experiencing difficulty in school or with siblings? Let me help with these issues. I believe that it is important to speak truth to your situation with compassion and care. Often times, the truth is hard to digest, but this is how we can face our difficulties and work through them in order to move forward in life. In the first session, I go over the informed consent and discuss confidentiality, then we share introductions. If the client seems nervous, I give them some space to settle and then we begin the session. During this time, I learn from the client their goals for therapy and we develop a plan to achieve those goals.
My greatest strength is helping all clients see the things that they have been trying to avoid and allowing them to face these issues in order to strengthen themselves and no longer live under the false beliefs that they have accepted over the years. I also have a strong desire to work with young children and adolescents who are struggling in school, with family, possibly self-harming or dealing with drugs. Working with the sand can be very beneficial to work through these issues.

I’m actually surprised at how much I liked this first session. Great session and I feel that she was so knowledgeable and prepared (even though she said she wasn’t prepared LOL). Thank you thank you. Can’t wait to do this again next week.

In my practice we use a combination of EMDR with somatic processing which allows clients to identify sensations within their bodies which are a result of trauma. I find this method very helpful for clients releasing past traumas and finding relief.
I love the sandtray and was trained at Texas State University. I use the sandtray with not only children but adults, couples and families. Allowing individuals to have the option to not speak, but tell their stories using miniatures and the sand is a powerfully expressive form of therapy.
