Welcome! I am Lauren Capel, a licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in both Maryland and North Carolina. I received my Masters from University of Maryland School of Social Work, and completing my Doctorate in Behavioral Health at Freed Hardeman University. I have been practicing clinically for over 16 years and have expertise working with adolescents, adults, and families. With a trauma-informed and solution-focused lens, I create a nurturing and affirming space where clients can process life's complexities, develop resilience, and create meaningful change in their lives. Whether you feel stuck, overwhelmed, or simply seeking a therapist who hears and understands what it means to be whole, I am here to help you move toward a life of wholeness and restoration.
The first session is all about you and getting to know your story, and what brought you to therapy. We will start with introductions and discuss what you are looking for in therapy. I will try to understand your needs by asking about your concerns, personal history, and specific challenges you are experiencing. Together, we will outline what you hope to gain from therapy and begin shaping a plan to cater to your needs. I will explain my approach to therapy and what sessions may look like moving forward. Most importantly, the first session is about ensuring you feel seen, heard, and supported. My goal is to help you leave with a sense of direction and hope as we begin this journey together.
My approach to best serving you is holistic to foster lasting transformation. I support individuals navigating life's challenges with clarity, resilience, and faith-integrated support (optional based on client preference).
I specialize in working with high achieving women, Gen X, millennials, and Gen Z individuals who are navigating life's challenges, relationships, anxiety, depression, life transitions, and the impact of past trauma. I also enjoy working with entrepreneurs, professionals, and leaders who often carry the weight of responsibility while striving for balance and fulfillment. As a therapist who identifies with the Christian faith, I also support individuals seeking to integrate their faith into their mental health journey, as well as those who may be experiencing spiritual struggles, church hurt, or a desire for deeper emotional and soul healing.
I have been certified in trained in TF-CBT and trauma interventions for over almost 15 years. I use this approach to help clients heal from past trauma of abuse, violence, and other distressing events. I help with teaching regulation skills, helping reframe negative thoughts from traumatic experiences, and cognitive restructuring.
I am trained in DBT and use this to support clients with a history of self-harm and interpersonal challenges. I focus on emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal skills. I also incorporate trauma informed care with DBT skills.
I offer a holistic and client-centered approach in my work with clients. I include faith based approaches and Christian values in my work if desired. This supports clients in finding hope, meaning, purpose, and build resilience in their mental health journey. It can also be incorporated in mindfulness and self-care practices.
I use a solution-based approach that empowers you to identify your strengths, build resilience, and take actionable steps toward positive change. Rather than focusing on problems, we will highlight solutions, progress, and possibilities helping you move forward with confidence.
