Hello! I am Amy Lottes, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the state of Florida and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Colorado. I am also a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC). I have experience helping clients with depression, stress and anxiety, coping with addictions, relationship issues, trauma, and an array of other issues. My clients like working with me because they feel like we are having a conversation while addressing their issues and working toward their goals. They usually say this approach feels less clinical and intimidating, and as a result, end up making progress faster than they initially thought they would. I view therapy as a process in which the client and therapist work together to determine goals and define success, as well as determine a process for maintaining success. Our work will be geared toward achieving a healthier, more balanced lifestyle. I approach therapy from a cognitive-behavioral perspective, meaning thoughts and beliefs that are interfering with functioning need to be addressed and appropriately changed and/or reorganized for better mental health. I also employ methods from other theoretical approaches as needed and deemed useful. It takes courage to seek out a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. I am here to support & empower you in that journey!
During our first session, I'll get to know you a little better and find out why you are seeking therapy. After the initial session, we will begin to create goals that will guide our therapy sessions. Along the way, we will change or revise these goals as necessary. We'll identify what is not working in your life and then we can work together to help you make changes. I'm a goal-oriented therapist and my clients like that they are able to see and measure results.
I have a background in addictions and have worked in different settings such as hospitals, partial hospitalization, outpatient services, and private practice. I have helped clients with many different issues to include depression, anxiety, couples therapy, relationship issues, trauma, grief, and social anxiety.
The primary modality I use in helping my clients is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). CBT is a collaborative and goal-oriented therapy. We work together as a team to identify and address specific concerns or challenges. CBT recognizes the connection of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and explores how our thoughts influence our emotions and actions.
I have helped numerous couples learn how effective communication and conflict resolution can greatly enhance satisfaction in their relationship. In my couples counseling practice, I draw from a variety of proven methods and approaches. This includes evidence-based techniques, communication strategies, and interventions tailored to address the unique dynamics of each relationship.
In also use other treatment modalities as appropriate. Eclectic therapy is an approach that involves integrating techniques from different therapeutic modalities. This flexibility allows me to tailor my methods to the unique needs and preferences of each client. In my practice, I will also draw from various therapeutic approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Reality Therapy, Mindfulness, and Solution-Focused Therapy. This allows me to offer a diverse range of tools to address different aspects of your well-being.
