Hello! I'm Courtney a psychotherapist. It has been a dream of mine to work with others since a very young age. Interesting story, growing up my mother and grandmother watched soap operas. One of the actresses was a psychotherapist and helped people. From that point on, I said I wanted to be a psychotherapist when I got older. Before I was old enough to work, I volunteered. My experience over many years in the field has provided me with so many opportunities that I believe have shaped the person I am today. I have been fortunate to work in communities, hospital, group homes, jails, and a head start program. These experiences helped me to see individuals in different environments with various challenges and complexities these individuals faced. I bring all of this experience to my role as a psychotherapist. My experience allows me to understand how certain environments and experiences directly affect people. It also gives me insight into the overall picture which is extremely important when treating clients who have had traumatic experiences and mental illness.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session today, I anticipate you may be anxious. That's completely normal. Rest assured, that it is my goal to provide a safe, warm, non-judgmental space for you to be yourself. The goal of the first session is to meet each other, discuss what brings you to therapy at this time and what your goals are for therapy. This information will assist me in creating a road map to help you accomplish your goals.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I understand how difficult it can be to meet a stranger and share things that are difficult to talk about. It is essential to make a warm, safe, non-judgmental space for clients to share their stories. I am passionate about empowering people to see their strength, overcome obstacles, accomplish their goals.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

The way we think has such an impact in our lives. Our feelings, thoughts, and behaviors are interrelated. In my practice, this treatment method is used identifying and changing negative behavior and thought patterns. I have found this approach to be effective in treating a wide range of mental health issues because it involves assessment, goal setting, identifying negative thought patterns, challenging and replacing, behavioral interventions, and progress monitoring.

Strength-Based

With my clients, I use a strengths-based perspective, focusing on existing strengths, resources and potential, rather than deficits or problem. This approach is very effective because it helps clients build on existing capabilities to overcome challenges. Clients feel understood, heard and validated.

Trauma Informed Care

Understanding a client's life experiences can lead to more effective care. In this method of treatment there are a number of key factors. Making client feel safe. Collaboration with client. Helping them to feel more engaged in their care. Re-traumatization is avoided. The result can be improved health outcomes for clients.
