My name is Boisey Bristo, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional, and Certified Brain Injury Specialist based in Ft. Worth, Texas delivering services statewide via telehealth. I work with adolescents and adults specializing in anxiety disorders, mood disorders, stress and adjustment challenges, trauma, culture and diversity, and brain injury. My counseling philosophy is, that “every journey begins with the first step.” Most of my clients present with anxiety and depression. However, I have also worked with eating disorders, personality disorders, autism, substance abuse/addiction, and psychotic disorders. My focus is on helping the client achieve wellness through the process of acceptance and change.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Our first session will focus on establishing rapport and developing your treatment plan.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My journey to becoming a therapist is a personal journey. As an African American, I believe I have a unique understanding of the generational trauma that many Black Americans experience because of systematic oppression. I lost my stepfather to a drug overdose and two of my close friends are diagnosed with PTSD and Schizophrenia. Representation matters and I truly believe that being a therapist is my purpose and my way to serve my community. However, I welcome all who need support and guidance.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I enjoy working with clients who are motivated and willing to engage in treatment. My clients tend to display an ability to reflect on their experiences and a willingness to challenge what they believe.

My treatment methods

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

DBT can be considered a variation of cognitive behavioral therapy combined with mindfulness-based strategies and interventions. My use of this method varies based on the needs of the individual. I find it to be particularly helpful for clients who struggle with anxiety and intrusive thoughts.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT is the foundation of my practice. This method takes the approach that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interrelated and by reframing thoughts, you can facilitate change in emotional and behavioral experiences. This method requires that the client has the ability to introspect and can be effective in treating depression and anxiety.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Mindfulness is all about present moment awareness and how to pay attention with intention to your physical, emotional, and cognitive (thought) experiences. I use mindfulness to teach clients how to practice self-compassion and not judge their behaviors, but instead become curious about them. Mindfulness can help strengthen the connection between the mind and body and can be effective in treating depression and anxiety.
