I am a licensed professional counselor in Virginia with over 5 years experience assisting individuals in need. Today's modern world has revved up our need to feel as if someone is hearing our concerns and helping us to make sense of things occurring in our society. I have worked with clients who have a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, parenting concerns, adjustment issues, anger management, OCD, and ADHD. I also help people who have experienced physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. My therapy style is warm and interactive. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. I do not believe in stigmatizing labels, though you have a mental health need it does not define who you are. I do expect my clients to be invested in attaining wellness. I utilize the following therapies: Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), person centered therapy, Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). We will tailor our sessions and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific goals. I applaud your courage to seek a more fulfilling and happier life. If you are ready to take that step, I am here to support and empower you.
After our first session you will be able to utilize some coping skills and techniques to feel better and begin to process your goals for therapy. I empower my clients to recognize the choices they are making and how those choices impact the situations they find themselves in. Many client's feel better just knowing that they are not on their journey alone but, they are the one steering the process.
Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT): This will teach clients to challenge their thinking process. Person Centered Therapy: Requires the client to actively take the reins during each therapy session, while the therapist acts mainly as a guide or a source of support for the client. Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT): An approach that helps you identify irrational beliefs and negative thought patterns that may lead to emotional or behavioral issues. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR): Adaptive Information Processing model posits that EMDR therapy facilitates the accessing and processing of traumatic memories and other adverse life experience to bring these to an adaptive resolution.
Many of my clients like the direct approach I utilize and the fact that I am transparent. I give you time to talk, vent, and process situations but I do not leave you there. I encourage clients to take their power back and use it in a manner that helps them experience better mental health. My greatest strength was in learning how to use the word NO effectively without feeling guilty about saying it. Through teachings on boundaries I help others learn this powerful two letter word.
I enjoy working with clients who are 35 and older. I have a special affiliation for senior citizens.
