Michelle Milligan, LCSW, LCSW-C, LISW, LISW-C, and LIMHP, for the past 25 years, is a dedicated and experienced Licensed Social Worker in multiple states with a strong background in providing therapeutic services across various disciplines. Her commitment to excellence and compassionate approach make her a valuable asset in medical, clinical, and psychiatric social work settings." I specialize in treating Racial Trauma in the workplace, Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome, Social and General Anxiety and Mood Disorders (depression and bipolar), Anxiety (Social Phobia and PTSD), Transitional Stressors (divorce, grief, occupational and family changes), couples and family counseling, behavioral problems with adolescents, ADD and AD/HD, and problems with anger and impulsivity.
In our first session, my goal is to create a supportive, nonjudgmental space where you can begin sharing what brings you to therapy. We will review your intake paperwork, screening results, presenting concerns, symptoms, treatment goals, and relevant history to ensure the information provided is complete and accurate. We will also confirm your emergency contact information, which is especially important for telehealth services to help support your safety and well-being. The intake session is also used to determine whether telehealth treatment is clinically appropriate for your needs and whether insurance medical necessity criteria are met for ongoing services. Insurance companies generally require a clinically appropriate mental health diagnosis and supporting documentation in order to authorize and reimburse treatment. If services are requested but insurance criteria are not met, clients may still choose to continue services on a self-pay basis. The self-pay fee for a 60-minute individual therapy session is $160. Please complete all required intake paperwork prior to your scheduled appointment. Incomplete paperwork may interfere with the assessment process and could result in the intake needing to be rescheduled and subject to the late cancellation/no-show policy. I will also review several important practice policies with you, including: Telehealth Policy – Telehealth sessions must be conducted from a private location with a stable internet connection to ensure confidentiality and clinical effectiveness. Sessions may not be conducted while driving, riding in a moving vehicle, shopping, actively working, or while interacting with others in public or professional settings. Late Cancellation and No-Show Policy – Appointments are reserved specifically for you and require at least 24 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule. Please note that I do not offer Sunday appointments. Therefore, if you have a Monday appointment, cancellation requests must be made by Friday to satisfy the 24-hour notice requirement. I exclusively schedule 60-minute therapy sessions, with approximately 53–55 minutes dedicated to direct clinical services in accordance with insurance and platform billing requirements. Clients independently schedule their own appointments and are responsible for attending sessions on time. Because appointments are scheduled on the hour, late arrivals affect the quality of care and the timely scheduling of other clients who arrived on time. A grace period of up to 15 minutes will be provided in accordance with platform policy. However, sessions cannot be extended beyond the originally scheduled appointment time, as doing so would delay care for other clients scheduled for that time. Clients who do not attend their scheduled appointment or who are 15 minutes late or more may be considered a no-show and may be subject to a late cancellation/no-show fee of up to $160, depending on insurance and payor guidelines. If a client joins within the 15-minute grace period, the session may still need to be rescheduled if there is insufficient remaining time to provide a clinically appropriate session that meets insurance and platform billing requirements. Please note that certain insurance plans or payors may limit or prohibit the collection of no-show or late-cancellation fees in accordance with their policies. You are always welcome to ask questions throughout the process, and we will move at a pace that feels comfortable and supportive for you. By the end of the intake session, you should have a clearer understanding of the therapeutic process, practice expectations, and whether we are a good fit to continue working together. I look forward to meeting you and supporting you in this process of healing, growth, and self-understanding.
As an experienced professional in mental health and social work, I have developed many attributes that enhance the productivity of individuals and their families. One of my notable skill sets is my ability to work with clients in various settings with various behavioral, emotional, and mental health needs. I have successfully worked with infants, children, adolescents, and adults. I’ve been privileged to conduct therapeutic counseling for individual, group, family, classroom, and play sessions. Each age group, setting, and focal point of counsel has required me to implement different skills and techniques. Being able to do that effectively has ensured that all involved were engaged and benefited from therapy.
I am compassionate, honest, and supportive when working together with clients to meet their treatment goals. I also can “connect” with teens and young adults, individuals, couples, and family issues, and I have the ability to be “direct” when needed. For me, therapy is… Having the courage and willingness to grow and change to make your life better.

In sessions, I help each partner feel heard and understood while teaching practical tools to enhance communication, resolve conflicts more effectively, and rebuild connections. I draw on approaches such as Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to strengthen emotional bonds and Cognitive Behavioral techniques to challenge unhelpful patterns. We also explore each partner’s underlying needs, attachment styles, and relationship history to promote deeper understanding and lasting change. Couples therapy is not about placing blame—it’s about learning new ways to relate, grow, and move forward together. Whether you’re hoping to repair a relationship or strengthen one that’s struggling, I’ll support you both in working toward your shared goals.

Michelle is very attentive to the conversations that we have which lets me know she cares. She does very well at remembering my changes and the process that I'm on. She offers great advice and pathways to my goals and she challenges me to think critically and examine myself and my past in a healthy way.

This was really refreshing. Even in our first session she was able to do the intake and still manage to give some insight. We learned very quickly on topics.
