Hello! My name is Desiree Scime, and I am a Licensed Marital and Family Therapist (LMFT) as well as a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) in Connecticut. With over 30 years of experience in inpatient, outpatient, and crisis settings, I specialize in working with women who are facing challenges such as anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, relationship issues, self-care, and career difficulties. Currently, I am accepting new clients who are adults aged 25 and older for individual sessions only. Please note that I am not accepting referrals for couples or family therapy.
Choosing to attend therapy is a brave step. In the first session, I aim to learn about you, and you'll get a feel for my therapeutic style and approach. Expect more questions initially, as this helps to form a comprehensive understanding of the issues you wish to address.
As a provider, I am open-minded, empathetic, and direct. I believe in accountability without judgment. Through my life experiences, I have learned that self-awareness fosters a trusting and safe environment where clients can explore and express themselves while addressing the issues they want to tackle.
Desiree Scime offers therapy covered by Husky Health and Medicaid in Connecticut.
Eclectic therapy allows me to use directive and/or non-directive techniques depending on the scenario. This therapeutic style is best defined by me being able to utilize whichever processes or strategies appear to be the most appropriate at any given time for any given client. I find that it is very effective "in meeting the client where they are at" throughout the session.
Strength based therapeutic approaches are useful in that it helps the client focus on their strengths and resilience rather than their weaknesses and often provides hope and a sense of well being.
