I, Ashton Locklear am pleased that you have chosen me as your counselor. The following information is designed to inform you about my background and to confirm that you understand the nature of our professional therapeutic relationship and your rights as a client. I received a Master of Arts in Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke (UNCP) in 2022. I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in North Carolina (17762). I am recognized by the National Board for Certified Counselors as a National Certified Counselor (ID#1673906). I also hold licensure as a Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist- Associate (# LCAS-27287). I regularly attend workshops and trainings to expand my competence, knowledge, and skills in areas that will best serve the needs of my clients.
In our first session, you can anticipate spending time getting to know me and talking about what brought you to therapy, including a detailed look at your current concerns, background information about your life, and what you hope to achieve through therapy. I will ask you questions to understand your situation, explain my approach to therapy, and go over confidentiality and other important details. You will also have the chance to ask questions about the process and whether you feel comfortable moving forward with me as your therapist.
My biggest assets as a provider are my ability to develop strong, trustworthy connections with clients by actively listening to their issues and customizing treatment programs to meet their requirements, as well as my outstanding communication skills and sincere empathy in providing client care.
CBT breaks down challenging problems into smaller parts to help you deal with them more constructively. In order to improve your mood, you are taught how to alter these negative habits. Unlike some other talking treatments, CBT deals with your current problems, rather than focusing on issues from your past.
