Stephanie Stathas

LPC (she/her)15 years of experience

Hello there! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), National Certified Counselor (NCC), SMART Recovery Certified Counselor, and certified Neurofeedback/Biofeedback/qEEG trainer in the state of Pennsylvania. I am a EMDRIA Certified EMDR therapist and a EMDRIA Approved Consultant-in-Training who was directly trained by Dr. Francine Shapiro, the developer of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I am also certified in Polyvagal Theory to support nervous system regulation throughout trauma treatment and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction. I believe in a healing holistically our mind, body, and spirits, and respect wherever you are at in your journey of healing and will meet you there with support! With over 15 years of clinical experience, I have worked with children, adolescents, adults, trauma survivors, first responders, healthcare professionals, community mental health populations, dual diagnosis programs, inpatient and outpatient settings, and private practice providers. I integrates EMDR best practices, trauma-informed principles, and evidence-based strategies to support individual's in delivering effective therapeutic services.

First session

In our first session together, I simply would like to get to know who you are, as I am very personable in my approach. You can expect me to ask questions as to what brought you in to therapy, what your past experiences have been like if you have experience with this field, and what you would like to achieve with me throughout our sessions. I will provide education on any questions that you have for me as well, as I want this to be a beneficial experience for you in whatever way that means for you.

Strengths

I use a very client-centered approach as opposed to a more mechanical style, and I enjoy spending the time to see what my client's really need from me. For instance, if a client tell's me that they want a more "laid back style" and it helps them more to talk and process, then I will do that. If another client, however, want's someone that will challenge them - I am more than happy to do so as I want to do the best at what works uniquely for that person.

Ideal clients

Example of an ideal client: Someone who is motivated for therapy and is ready to "do the work." By "doing the work" I mean that the client is ready to face challenges in their life understanding that when they do so, it will help them to grow as an individual and in their own self-awareness, which can lead to better interpersonal relationships and the individual's relationship with oneself.
