Hi! I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Virginia. I love working with couples experiencing relationship issues; veterans and individuals who need guidance managing their symptoms of anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD and those struggling with addiction. I want to take a moment to acknowledge your first step towards this empowering, confusing and possibly scary journey towards bettering your mental health.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

During our first session together, we'll start with introductions, and the reason you are seeking treatment as well as the specific challenges you're facing. This will allow us to create a tailored plan to work through in follow-up sessions.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

My past work experience has shaped me into an empathetic provider who believes that every client has the strength to find solutions to create the change they want to see in themselves. I greet my patients with a warm and caring smile while taking the time to listen to their needs in order to build a trusting relationship to challenge and create change. Counseling can foster personal development in whatever way you may be seeking and help build the life you so deeply deserve. If that's what you're looking for, contact me today, and we'll start your journey together!

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

"I am best positioned to serve veterans, individuals, and couples who are ready to stop just 'getting by' and start reclaiming their lives. Whether you are navigating the transition from military to civilian life, struggling with the weight of PTSD, anxiety, or depression, or a couple trying to break through years of disconnect, I provide a grounded and resilient space for your healing. Because of my background in CPS and veteran care, I am uniquely comfortable sitting with you in the 'messy' and complex parts of life. My 'dream client'—whether a man, woman, or member of the LGBTQ+ community—is someone looking for a therapist who won't be shaken by their story. My approach is deeply Person-Centered, meaning you are the expert on your life, and I am your partner in navigating it. To help you reach your goals, I pull from a versatile toolkit: CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy): To help you identify and shift the thought patterns keeping you stuck in anxiety or low self-esteem. DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy): To provide concrete skills for managing intense emotions and improving your relationships. Trauma-Informed Care: To ensure our work always prioritizes your sense of safety and empowerment as we process the past. If you are looking for a direct, empathetic advocate who understands the grit it takes to change, we will be a great fit. Let's move you from a state of survival back into a life of stability and connection."

My treatment methods

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I have been using DBT in therapy sessions for 3 years, as it is a great way to help people manage intense emotions and make positive life changes. DBT is based on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and is often used to treat conditions of depression, anxiety, and substance use disorders. DBT is based on the idea that people can both accept their current situation and try to change it. DBT teaches skills to help people understand and accept their feelings, regulate their emotions, and improve their relationships.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use CBT in therapy to help guide and teach clients coping skills for dealing with different problems, make sense of overwhelming problems, thoughts, beliefs and attitudes that affect their feelings and actions by breaking them down into smaller more manageable parts by modifying unwanted emotions, behaviors, and thoughts. We will examine together, the things you think (cognitive) and the things you do (behavior) and process them in a safe space.

Motivational Interviewing

If clients are questioning change and why it is necessary we will explore together the client's motivation for changing these behaviors. This treatment is goal oriented, collaborative and strength-based. Together we will explore perspectives, idea's and experiences empowering the client to find their own meaning, capacity and importance for this change.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Mindfulness is about focusing on the present mental, emotional and physical states; without judgement. I incorporate mindfulness techniques throughout therapy and have been utilizing this technique since becoming a therapist. This approach helps the client achieve present moment awareness, acceptance of experiences and self-regulation in order to process through a situation instead of acting impulsively. My clients find that mindfulness helps them decrease stress; fatigue and anxiety as well as improve sleep and mood and can be practiced outside therapy sessions making it a useful tool anytime it may be needed.

Trauma Informed Care

I received training in Trauma-Informed Care years ago while working in Child Protective Services and continue using it today with clients in order to provide effective healing for patients who have a trauma history. In understanding a client's life experiences I can effectively provide an environment of healing and recovery rather than services that may inadvertently re-traumatize the client. TIC is about maintaining a basic understanding of trauma and adversity, reflecting and recognizing on how a client's self and world view, influence their interpretation of the here and now. It is about how I provide care to my client's and a commitment to safety, trustworthiness, client's choice, and collaboration in order to empower my clients.
