I have always naturally liked hearing other people's stories and helping them find a positive way through whatever difficulty they were experiencing. Even as a child, my mom would always ask, "Is the doctor in?," whenever I was on the phone with a friend. When I grew older, I found that I wanted to refine those skills and do even more. I did volunteering with kids in creative organizations and also worked within a hospice organization. I eventually did work in an outpatient community clinic that allowed me to connect with many different types of people from all walks of life and stages of life development. Additionally, I have treated adults with difficulties managing stress, anxiety, mood disorders, and life transitions. My dream clients are those who are open to interventions and really want to understand themselves better. I want to work with those who are willing to try. I believe therapy is not about being a perfect person, but rather developing better ways of looking at yourself and how to navigate the world. The road to healing and self-improvement does not always happen in a straight line, and I believe it takes patience to find the right way through.
In the first session, I will be getting to know the client by learning more about their background and the main issue they would like to work on in therapy. Once we have made introductions and touched on some of these subjects, I will give a general plan that will be tailored to them.
My greatest strength as a provider is my deep interest in helping others discover their own hidden potential and giving them the tools to nourish that part of themselves. I provide tangible exercises and therapy homework that allows clients to put many of these therapeutic concepts into regular practice.
I enjoy working with adults who are focusing on changing negative habits, working through new changes in their lives, and want to develop healthier ways of managing their emotions. I also like working with those who want to build their self-esteem and confidence.
I aid clients in reframing negative thought processes and learn mindfulness skills that allow them to stay in the moment. Clients will learn ways of de-escalating distorted thinking and focusing on what they can control.
I help clients develop a better connection between the mind and body by having them develop positive coping skills related to deep breathing, meditation, and self-awareness exercises.
I utilize DBT-informed methods that center on emotional regulation skills, interpersonal communication, reframing cognitive distortions, and developing coping tools for managing things out of one's control.
