My name is Soroya Pognon and I'm a licensed clinical social worker with over 18 years experience. I primarily work with those who have anxiety disorders, adjustment disorders, burnout and stress management. Over the the last 18 years, I have worked with healthcare providers, entrepreneurs and those seeking guidance on getting to the next stage in their lives. I help people overcome obstacles by teaching them how to reframe their perspective and lead a more fulfilling life. In a way, I help people see the opportunities in any problem. When people have seen these opportunities and have put them into action, they are often surprised at what they can accomplish.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In a first session with me, clients can expect a few key things: 1. Introduction and Goals: We'll start with an introduction where you can share a bit about yourself and what you're looking to achieve. This helps me understand your needs and tailor our sessions to meet your goals. 2. Information Gathering: I'll ask questions to get a better understanding of your current situation, any challenges you're facing, and what you'd like to work on. This might include discussing your background, interests, and any specific issues or questions you have. 3. Setting Expectations: We'll talk about what you can expect from our sessions together, including how we'll communicate, the frequency of sessions, and any tools or resources that might be helpful. 4. Exploration of Topics: Depending on your needs, we might dive into specific topics or start exploring the areas you're interested in. This could involve brainstorming, problem-solving, or providing initial advice or resources. 5. Feedback and Next Steps: At the end of the session, we'll review what we've covered and outline any next steps. This might include setting goals for future sessions or identifying areas to focus on. Overall, the first session is about laying the groundwork for a productive and supportive relationship, so you can feel comfortable and clear about the direction we're heading.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I feel that my strongest qualities as a counselor include my sense of humor (while remaining professional), patience and openness to new ideas or ways of thinking about something that may be familiar to others but is new to you. In addition to therapy, I enjoy working with those who are entrepreneurs and/or business owners because this work is similar to what I do myself as an entrepreneur. Because I am an entrepreneur myself, it is easy for me to relate to those who are navigating owning a business in this environment.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have extensive experience using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in my practice, working with individuals dealing with anxiety, depression, and stress-related issues. I use CBT to help clients identify and challenge unhelpful thought patterns, develop healthier coping strategies, and gradually shift behaviors to support long-term well-being. I often incorporate tools like thought records, behavioral experiments, and cognitive restructuring to empower clients to become more aware of their thoughts and how these impact their emotions and actions.

Christian Counseling

I integrate Christian counseling into my practice by combining psychological principles with a faith-based perspective, depending on the client’s preferences and beliefs. I draw on biblical truths to offer hope, encouragement, and guidance, while also using evidence-based approaches like CBT. Prayer, Scripture, and spiritual reflection are incorporated when appropriate, helping clients align their emotional and mental health with their faith journey.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients build psychological flexibility by encouraging acceptance of difficult thoughts and feelings rather than struggling with them. I guide clients in identifying their core values and taking committed action aligned with those values.

Somatic

I use somatic therapy to help clients connect with their bodies and recognize how physical sensations relate to emotional experiences. By integrating body awareness with talk therapy, I assist clients in processing trauma, anxiety, and stress that may be stored physically. Techniques like breathwork, gentle movement, and body scanning allow clients to release tension and gain insights into how their emotions manifest physically. This holistic approach helps clients achieve greater mind-body integration and emotional healing.
