I have lived a long and colorful life. Like everyone else, I've made good and bad choices and learned from each. I have 22+ years experience in the mental health and substance abuse treatment field. I DO NOT JUDGE, AT ALL, PERIOD. I can be both blunt and gentle as appropriate. My role is to offer another perspective, a way to see life more fully and function better, no more, no less. I don't pretend to have all the answers but only one slice of wisdom. I just share what can help someone. Some people are not yet ready to be helped. Yet for those who are feeling lost on life's journey and are willing to listen and learn, I'm here to assist. My life work can be summed up in three words, "offering people hope. " "The wound is where the light enters." - Jeladdin Rumi "A coward dies a thousand deaths, a brave man only once." Martin Luther King Jr. "Wouldn't take nothin' for my journey now." - Maya Angelou "The past is gone, and there is left only a blessing." - Kahlil Gibran "Be true to yourself, and you will be false to no one else." - William Shakespeare "How very lucky are we, for just a moment to be, part of life's eternal rhyme." Charlotte's Web, movie "Not all who wander are lost." J.R.R. Tolkien

Hello, I'm Steve, a licensed therapist with a passion for helping individuals and couples navigate life's challenges and achieve mental wellness. With over 20 years of experience in corporate America and nearly a decade of military counseling, I bring a diverse and grounded perspective to my practice, allowing me to connect deeply with clients facing a wide range of concerns. I specialize in treating PTSD, combat-related trauma, military family support, work-related stress, and anxiety. One of my unique areas of expertise is cult-related abuse, making me one of the few specialists in this field nationwide. My work has received national recognition, including a feature on the Dr. Phil show. I recently published a clinical book for therapists and clergy on treating survivors of cults and coercive control—an area of care that is often overlooked but deeply needed. I also focus on men’s mental health, executive and leadership counseling, clergy support, and depression treatment. My approach to therapy centers on creating a compassionate, non-judgmental environment where clients feel genuinely heard and understood. I blend Client-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and the Gottman Method for couples, tailoring sessions to each client’s unique goals. My aim is to help clients build resilience, develop clarity, and experience meaningful, lasting change. In my practice, I prioritize strong therapeutic relationships and empowering clients to take the lead in their healing journey. Whether you're navigating trauma, stress, relationship challenges, or personal growth, I’m here to help you chart your course toward a healthier and more fulfilling future.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Idaho rather than a city like Boise?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in Idaho. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Idaho from Meridian to Nampa! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Idaho.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on a specific issue?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What happens during the first therapy session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs. Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
