Max Mercado
I’m a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner providing gentle, trauma-informed care for children, teens, and adults navigating anxiety, trauma, and overwhelm. My approach is collaborative and paced, with a focus on emotional safety, practical support, and care that feels aligned with you.
I integrate medication management with DBT-informed skills, always focusing on practical, real-life application so the work feels useful beyond our sessions.
I integrate medication management with DBT-informed strategies, neurodiverse-affirming care, and values-based decision-making to help you feel more steady, understood, and supported in your daily life.
First session
In our first session, my priority is for you to feel heard, safe, and understood. There’s no pressure to have everything figured out or to tell your whole story all at once—we move at your pace. I’ll spend time getting to know you—what’s been weighing on you, what’s been working, and what you’re hoping for. More than anything, this is a conversation, not an interrogation. We’ll begin to make sense of things together. If it feels right, we’ll also talk through options for support, including whether medication could be helpful, always as a collaborative decision. My goal is for you to leave feeling a little more grounded, a little more clear, and not alone in what you’re navigating.
Strengths
My greatest strength is creating a space where clients feel genuinely seen, heard, and safe to be themselves. I bring a calm, grounded presence and take a collaborative, person-centered approach—nothing is rushed, and your voice matters in every decision. I integrate medication management with DBT-informed skills, always focusing on practical, real-life application so the work feels useful beyond our sessions. I’m especially attuned to emotional nuance, helping clients make sense of what they’re feeling without judgment while also building tools for change. Clients often share that they feel more understood, more steady, and more confident navigating their lives. My goal is not just symptom relief, but helping you feel more aligned, capable, and supported in who you are.
Ideal clients
I’m best positioned to support children, teens, and adults who are navigating anxiety, trauma, and feeling overwhelmed—especially those who may feel like they’ve been “holding it all together” for a long time. Many of the clients I work with are thoughtful, sensitive, and self-aware, but may struggle with emotional intensity, executive functioning, or feeling stuck despite their efforts. I work well with individuals who are looking for a gentle, collaborative approach to care—where they feel heard, not rushed, and supported at their own pace. This includes those who are neurodiverse, exploring identity or life transitions, or wanting a more values-based way of making decisions. My approach combines medication management with DBT-informed care, always grounded in emotional safety and practical, real-life application. I aim to create a space where clients feel understood and supported while also building skills that help them feel more steady, capable, and aligned in their daily lives.
Treatment methods
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I use DBT as a practical, skills-based approach while keeping the work very person-centered. I help clients build skills in emotion regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness, especially when they’re feeling overwhelmed or stuck. In sessions, I integrate DBT into real-life situations so it feels relevant and usable, not rigid. I focus on meeting clients where they are, validating their experience, and working together on small, meaningful changes that build confidence over time. Overall, my goal is to make DBT feel approachable and supportive—helping clients feel more in control, balanced, and effective in their daily lives.
