Hi, I'm Jennifer. Do you sometimes feel stuck? Struggle with beliefs that maybe are getting in the way of you living your life to the fullest? Have you experienced a significant trauma? Are you struggling with daily life stressors? Are you looking for a therapist to help you develop boundaries? We can work together to develop strategies to improve balance in your life. Engaging in therapy can be an intimidating process. I help patients process trauma, changes in cognitive processing, as well as difficulties in daily relationships. A new diagnosis can be hard to process and can feel overwhelming. I work with patients to help identify strengths as well as opportunities for improvement. I use Cognitive Processing Therapy to address trauma, modifying as needed to meet individual needs. We'll utilize an eclectic approach to therapy, adjusting as needed to help you feel comfortable and build confidence in yourself. I'll meet you with compassion as well as evidence-based techniques so that you can build skills to help you through life's ups and downs. I appreciate your consideration. I look forward to working with you.
In the first session, there are some basic things that I try to accomplish. First we will review informed consent and review my Professional Disclosure Statement (PDS); I will answer any questions you may have. After this, we will explore the issues that brought you to therapy, allowing me to get to know you by learning a piece of your story.
I have experience working with brain injury, cognitive impairments and other neurological conditions. I work well with persons on the autism spectrum. I have completed specialized training in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), which is utilized to primarily treat trauma. It can be modified to address other mental health disorders such as anxiety. Due to having active duty family members, as well as family who are veterans, I can relate to the unique culture that exists in military life. This applies not only to those serving but to family members as well. Experience as a victim advocate, as well as my master's in Forensic Psychology, allows for an understanding of the complexities of the legal environment as it relates to mental health concerns.
I completed 13hrs of training through Strong Star Initiative, as well as 25+ hours of supervision. CPT can be used to treat PTSD. As a therapist, I have found it to be very effect in helping those who are experiencing distress in their daily lives.
