Jessica Burnell
Welcome! I'm Jessica Psychiatric NP, My practice is focused on value and support of those struggling with mental health issues to improve their emotional wellbeing and personal growth through building trust, providing education, and shared decision making in their mental health treatment. I work with all age groups offering both medication management, lifestyle and behavioral health teaching, and supportive psychotherapy.
I am an experienced psychiatric nurse practitioner with background in both emergency medicine and mental health.
First session
Throughout treatment, I adopt a person-centered approach that fits you, as an individual. We will identify your challenges and goals, and use shared decision making to formulate a treatment plan that works for you.
Strengths
I bring a calm, collaborative presence to each session. My strengths include helping clients feel understood, creating space for reflection, and offering supportive therapy woven into medication management. I’m skilled at breaking down complex symptoms into clear patterns, validating lived experience, and helping clients build practical coping strategies. I also prioritize shared decision‑making—ensuring you feel empowered, informed, and actively involved in your treatment.
Ideal clients
My ideal client is someone who is motivated to understand their mental health, open to collaborative treatment, and ready to engage in evidence‑based care. They value clear communication, appreciate a structured yet compassionate approach, and are seeking support for conditions such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma‑related symptoms, or life‑transition stress. They are willing to participate actively in their treatment plan and are looking for a safe, respectful space to build stability, resilience, and long‑term wellness.
Treatment methods
Person-centered (Rogerian)
I integrate empathy, unconditional positive regard, and genuineness—into my treatment practices. By fostering a therapeutic environment that prioritizes these core components at each visit. During evaluations I use open-ended, empathic questions to establish rapport and gain a comprehensive understanding of the client's experience. By affirming patient-centered communication and using a biopsychosocial framework, I can enhance client engagement and satisfaction, ultimately supporting adherence to treatment plans and optimizing both the therapeutic alliance and clinical outcomes.
Supportive
I combine supportive psychotherapy with evidence‑based medication management to provide comprehensive, patient‑centered care. Sessions focus on strengthening insight, reducing distress, and building practical coping skills while also evaluating how biological, psychological, and environmental factors shape symptoms. Medications are used thoughtfully and collaboratively—one tool within a broader therapeutic plan designed to support meaningful, sustainable change.
Integrative
Integrative psychiatry, including functional psychiatry, emphasizes a holistic, patient-centered approach that combines conventional treatments (such as pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy) with complementary care, including dietary modification, lifestyle interventions, and the judicious use of supplements and nutraceuticals.
