Stephanie Gerrish
My name is Stephanie Gerrish and I have been a behavioral/mental health provider for 12 years. I received my undergraduate degree from Oakland University in 2014 and my graduate degree from Michigan State in 2018.
Whether this is your first time or you’re a veteran to therapy, I want you to feel comfortable knowing that we are in this together.
Throughout those 12 years, I have worked with a variety of different mental health diagnoses, including depression, anxiety, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, opposition defiance disorder, bipolar disorder, mood disorders, and other developmental disorders, such as autism spectrum disorder.
First session
Therapy should be person-centered, meaning I want my clients to feel like they are in the driver seat when it comes to our sessions. It is important for me to get to know you, while being able to identify what areas of your life you want to strengthen and/or improve. I look forward to meeting you and learning how I can help you grow.
Strengths
My strengths include encouragement, empowerment, and advocating for you in whatever areas you need. Honesty and integrity are important to me as a therapist, and I want to make sure that my clients know that I will be there as a support person as they embark on their journeys through therapy. Whether this is your first time or you’re a veteran to therapy, I want you to feel comfortable knowing that we are in this together.
Ideal clients
If you are ready to gain insight, self-awareness, and self-worth, then I think we would be a good match. My ideal client is someone who is ready for personal growth, even if it requires being uncomfortable. The shift towards genuine happiness happens when you begin the journey to self-love and I look forward to working together towards achieving that goal.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Our thoughts and feelings influence how we respond to situations in our lives. I have used CBT with my clients for the past six years and I have seen how changing patterns of thinking can help clients change outcomes.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
DBT focuses on helping people accept the reality of their lives and their behaviors, as well as helping them learn to change their lives, including their unhelpful behaviors. I have used DBT to help clients recognize patterns, obstacles, and perspective-taking to help them develop skills needed to grow.
Strength-Based
Strength-based therapy is a therapeutic approach that emphasizes a client's existing strengths, resources, and positive qualities to promote well-being and facilitate personal growth. Instead of solely focusing on problems or deficits, it leverages a client's capabilities to help them overcome challenges and achieve their goals.
