Sharon Berkobien
Hi! I have been a licensed therapist (LMSW-C) for over 20 years. I graduated from Michigan State University, and live and work in Michigan. I have had the privilege of working with children, teens, adults and families with relationship issues, addiction, trauma, PTSD, and life transitions. I enjoy meeting new people and helping them find hope and healing so they can live healthy, happy, and productive lives.
First session
In our first meeting, we will spend a little time getting to know one another. Then, I will spend the majority of the session listening to you, as you tell me what is going wrong and what you want to accomplish. Together, we will establish goals and an action plan for moving forward.
Strengths
Having worked as a therapist for over 20 years, I have learned that for most of us, the problems we face are complex and can be confusing, stressful, and exhausting. It is hard to navigate through life without help. We all need people who can listen, empathize, treat us with respect, and who can provide wisdom, skills and strategies to help us try new things to make the positive changes to make our lives and relationships better. That is what I strive everyday to do for you.
Ideal clients
I love working with people who are motivated to learn new skills, and are willing to do the hard work of discovering what things from their past or present are getting in the way of them reaching their goals, whether at work, or in their relationships.
Treatment methods
Christian Counseling
People of faith often believe that their spiritual health is as important as their physical and mental health, and rely on faith, prayer and God daily especially when going through difficult times.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Our thoughts influence our emotions and our actions. CBT helps us be aware of, and change our negative thoughts and behaviors to healthy, positive thoughts and behaviors to improve our emotions and our actions.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
Mindfulness gives us skills to help us calm down and get to baseline, so our thinking brain can kick in and helps us make wise decisions.
Family Therapy
Sometimes roles in families can get mixed up, especially as kids become teens and young adults. Each new phase can create conflict in the home and can lead to poor communication and a lack of shared values. Family therapy helps us sort it all out come up with realistic expectations for the future.
