Belkis Perez
Hi, I’m Belkis Perez, a triple board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I also hold board certification in adult-gerontology primary care and acute care, with training from South University, the University of Miami, and Walden University. I have more than a decade of experience as a nurse practitioner and a longer career in nursing that includes primary care, corrections, acute care, and years in hospital specialty practice. I work with teens (>18) and adults by Telehealth across Florida—diagnosing psychiatric conditions, offering supportive counseling, building practical treatment plans, and prescribing when medication is appropriate.
I am one of the few providers in the area to provide this innovative ADHD testing for adults, setting a new standard for mental health care.
My style is straightforward and collaborative. I pay close attention to the rest of your health, including chronic medical problems and organ disease, so psychiatric care fits the life and the body you actually have. If you want a provider who listens carefully and keeps the plan clear, I would be glad to work with you.
First session
We start with a thorough first visit: your psychiatric history, current symptoms, medical conditions, medications, and what “better” would actually mean in your daily life. If organ disease, transplant evaluation, or a long medication list is part of your story, that is built into the plan from day one—not added later as an afterthought. LOA and Accommodation Paperwork Policy I do not complete Leave of Absence (LOA), FMLA, disability, or employer accommodation paperwork for new patients or during the first visit. These forms are provided only for established patients who have been under my continuous care for at least 6 months. This policy ensures I can provide accurate and appropriate documentation based on a sufficient treatment history. Thank you for understanding.
Strengths
My greatest strengths are a compassionate, proactive style and the ability to make people feel heard when their medical and mental health stories are tangled together. With more than a decade as a nurse practitioner and triple board certification in psychiatric-mental health, adult-gerontology primary care, and acute care, I diagnose psychiatric conditions, build practical treatment plans, and prescribe when medication is the right tool—always in the context of the rest of your health. That includes patients living with multiple medical problems and those with chronic or end-stage organ failure, whose psychiatric care has to respect labs, other specialists, and a long list of medications. Telehealth, clear communication, and organized follow-through let me offer that same level of care from anywhere in Florida. I am also one of the few providers in the area offering FDA-cleared QbTest for adults by Telehealth, so ADHD can be ruled in or ruled out with more than a checklist. Objective data plus a full clinical picture means faster, more personalized treatment—whether ADHD is the main concern or it sits beside anxiety, depression, or a serious medical illness.
Ideal clients
I work best with motivated teens (18 and over) and adults who want clarity, calm, and a partner—not a rushed prescription. Many are living with anxiety, depression, PTSD, ADHD, or the weight of a life transition. Others are doing all of that while managing chronic illness or end-stage liver or kidney disease, transplant evaluation, the waitlist, or life after transplant. They want more than symptom relief. They want psychiatric care that understands comorbidities, organ function, and family stress, and that still feels collaborative and human. They are open to medication when it helps, willing to use practical tools between visits, and ready to show up for telehealth from home in Florida. If you are tired of being treated as a diagnosis on one side and a medical chart on the other, I would be honored to walk with you.
Treatment methods
Motivational Interviewing
In our virtual psychiatric sessions, I use a technique called Motivational Interviewing (MI) to help you feel supported and empowered. It’s all about you—your goals, your strengths, and what matters most to you. Instead of telling you what to do, I listen closely, ask questions, and guide you to explore your own reasons for change—like managing stress, improving mood, or sticking with treatment. Through our video chats, we’ll work together to build your confidence and find solutions that feel right for you, all from the comfort of wherever you are. It’s a partnership, and I’m here to cheer you on every step of the way!
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Alongside MI, I use evidence-based treatments like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help you shift negative thought patterns, or medication management when it’s a good fit, to support your mental health goals. Together, we’ll customize your care plan to suit your unique needs, making sure it’s practical and effective, whether we’re meeting virtually or adjusting as we go.
