During 20 years of professional work experience, I have helped clients with stress and anxiety, coping with addictions, trauma and abuse, & coping with grief and loss. I work with my clients to create an open and safe environment where thoughts and feelings can be shared without fear of judgment. Taking the first step to seeking a more fulfilling and happier life takes courage. I am here to support you in that process. I am currently licensed in Indiana and Michigan. I am EMDR Certified (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), and I hold the credential of ACCTS (Advanced Certified Clinical Trauma Specialist) from the Arizona Trauma Institute. Additionally, I hold a CAADC (Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor) from the Michigan Certification Board for Addiction Professionals. In my practice now, I bring a theoretical framework tailored to the needs of the person being served. My technical skills include Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), co-occurring treatment, IFS for EMDR Therapists (Internal Family Systems), Motivational Interviewing, TF-CBT, and working with complex trauma and dissociation. Clinically, I am interested in meeting people where they are at, creating a safe space, and working along side them to achieve their personal goals. I believe in a holistic approach (mind/body/spirit) to treating the whole person, and in each person's innate capacity for resilience and healing with effective support. Nothing is more rewarding that helping others on their journey, as they strive to live life to the fullest. Building on personal strengths, while employing evidence based practices in a compassionate, ethical, and effective manner is my approach. I enjoy incorporating somatic work, meditation, mindfulness, and light yoga into my practice for those that are comfortable. I am fully immersed in my own holistic self-care journey, and believe in intentional practice of the tools I share with others.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In your first session, I will gather some information and complete an assessment to better understand the needs you have that I can support you with during treatment. As I get to know you, I will determine what treatment modalities will be most effective at addressing those needs, and explain them to you. We will work to develop trust and safety in the therapeutic relationship. I will leave you with a next step or skill to practice between sessions, and answer any questions you might have.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My robust experience and extensive post-graduate training in evidence based treatment modalities is unique. People reflect that this helps them feel secure in the therapeutic alliance, and to have hope for recovery. More importantly, the ability to attune and connect, reflect compassion and understanding, and meet people where they are at to work on their identified goals for treatment are my strengths as a clinician.

My treatment methods

EMDR

As a certified EMDR therapist, I have used the modality for the past ten years to successfully support people who need to work through trauma. I particularly find it helpful when working with folks who have had complex trauma, grief/loss, dissociative experiences, and acute stress reactions.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

DBT is an evidence based modality that I enjoy using with individuals who struggle with regulating emotion and attachment concerns. Although group is not an option remotely, offering skills in session supports people with effective behavior in the areas of mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance.

Psychoeducation

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy assists people with understanding the connection between thinking, feeling, and behaving. To that end, I find that offering resources, worksheets, tracking applications, and education based on individualized need can fill in the gaps and promote recovery. Importantly, psychoeducation can help combat shame/inner critic concerns, while supporting a more compassionate relationship with Self.

Trauma Informed Care

Utilizing aspects of TF-CBT, IFS informed and Trauma informed treatment provides a sound approach to supporting folks as they work through and understand the impact of developmental, complex, or acute trauma. While some may enter treatment not recognizing how the past impacts present difficulty in relationship or functioning, identifying and working toward adaptive resolution of these experiences can help support recovery in a profound way. Doing so allows individuals to experience the present more fully, and to make space for positive emotions such as joy, awe, wonder, and calm.

Christian Counseling

I believe in holistic care (mind-body-spirit). One of the often overlooked aspects of recovery is spirituality. If an individual is interested in incorporating aspects of Christian faith or spiritual practice into treatment, I find that this can promote healing in a profound way. Aspects of practice that can be helpful include prayer, meditation , loving-kindness, gratitude, and acknowledgment of inter-connectedness.
