Welcome! I am Mayra Ramos, LCSW. Seeking counseling can be quite nerve-wracking, not knowing what to expect and often doubting that it will actually help. But, counseling doesn't have to be so complicated. Counseling is about building a trusting relationship with your therapist, knowing that you can talk about anything that comes to mind. You don't have to second-guess yourself, as counseling is all about you. It's a place where you will be understood, where you will be listened to, supported, and where the ultimate goal is to increase your overall well-being. I strive to provide clients with a safe and comforting environment where they are free to express themselves. Clients will be able to explore their thoughts, current situations, address stressors, life changes, relationship conflicts, grief, and a multitude of issues. Together we will work to set boundaries, improve relationships, increase healthy coping skills, and live a more joyful life. I am experienced with adults and children over 12 years old.
Our first session will involve getting to know each other, discussing the expectations of therapy, obtaining information about the patient’s history and background, and creating a trusting and working relationship. We will build a partnership together to identify the challenges you are facing, set your goals, and develop strategies to help you live a fulfilling life. Remember that you are free to give feedback. If you are concerned about something, please do not hesitate to bring it up. We will hold each other accountable for the sake of your personal growth.
One of my greatest strengths is that I am empathetic, and I make my patients feel heard and comfortable. They know that their therapy is all about them and that they can feel comfortable with me, and I will guide them to address their concerns.
When experiencing difficult moments, remember that you are not alone. If you are experiencing a difficult moment in your life, the effect on your relationships and children can be detrimental. Whether you are dealing with a traumatic life event, divorce, separation, illness, death of a loved one, job loss, bullying, or something else, I am here to help. I can help you navigate these rough patches and get back to a place of peace. I can also help couples learn to effectively communicate with each other and change their approach to conflict resolution.
Mayra Ramos offers therapy covered by UnitedHealthcare/Optum - Medicaid in Texas.
I have been using CBT with clients for the past few years. CBT has been very helpful in treating various clients with anxiety and depression. Using the CBT model, we can identify dysfunctional thought patterns, behavioral patterns, and feelings that often worsen symptoms of anxiety and depression. Once we have identified these patterns, we will work together to learn how to use these techniques to cope and improve your quality of life. We will strive to change the anxiety-producing thoughts that we identify, which, in turn, will hopefully help you lead a happier life.
I often use psychoeducation as a foundation in therapy. It helps my clients understand their symptoms, diagnoses, behaviors, emotions, and relationship dynamics. Psychoeducation has helped my clients learn and understand how their body works, how to take care of it, and the impact of different strains or stressors.
I am experienced in providing trauma-informed care, and I find it extremely beneficial for patients with a history of sexual abuse, domestic violence, child abuse, car accidents, and other tragic incidents. Trauma-informed care is essential to help one understand how trauma impacts their health and behavior. Trauma-informed care helps me, as a therapist, respond to my clients’ needs. I utilize best practices and treatment in order to minimize re-traumatization. This treatment approach is patient-focused and helps establish emotional and physical safety. Together, we will work to ensure a trusting relationship and kindly address trauma affecting the client’s life.
This type of intervention helps clients accept the reality of their lives and behaviors. This intervention is great for high-risk patients, individuals with personality disorders, or for individuals having difficulty maintaining relationships. Together, we can work on accepting and addressing experiences and behaviors, making positive changes to manage emotions, developing skills like mindfulness, distress tolerance, and emotion regulation, learning to communicate effectively with others, and maintaining self-respect and personal boundaries.
