I am Walter williams a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. I received my Masters in Rehabilitation Counseling degree from Illinois Institute of Technology. I have over 20 years experience in rehabilitation psychology in a variety of settings. I have done crisis intervention in both inpatient and penal institutions. I have worked as a team leader for Assertive Community Treatment teams servicing chronically mentally ill people in the community. I have performed intake assessment, crisis intervention, suicide assessments, and brief grief counseling in multiple settings. I help adults struggling with major mental illness and or substance abuse to manage their thoughts and understand the dynamics of feelings thoughts and behaviors through evidence based practices likE CBT and Motivational Interviewing.
In our first session we will have a brief introduction to one another. I will answer any questions you have about me or therapy. We will identify specifically what issue you would like to focus on. Together we will begin to make an individual treatment plan.
I have worked with clients in multiple settings in the community, homeless persons, incarcerated, and inpatient hospitalization. I believe the greatest strength a counselor can possess is the ability to empathize and actively listen to what message or story the client is trying to tell
I focus on helping clients gain insight into their lives, develop tools and identify coping strategies through the use of evidence based practices like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational interviewing

I had an excellent first session with Walter. I typically don’t enjoy therapy but I loved working with him and will continue to do so. Walter is warm, receptive and a straight shooter!
