Great to meet you! I am Abigail Wilson, LCSW. A clinical social worker providing talk therapy in person and remotely in Deland, FL. I began my career in social work in 2001 working for the Florida Department of Children and Families. This is where I fell in love with helping people and knew I could do more. I received my Masters degree in Clinical Social Work in 2006 from Florida State University. I have worked in a variety of healthcare settings, learning so much about the mind, body, spirit connection. Witnessing and supporting human resiliency, hope and the ability to change is an honor and a privilege.
Our first session lets us get to know each other and see if we are a good fit. We can talk about why you are seeking help now, and what you are looking to get out of therapy. I’ll ask questions about you, your history and begin helping with any current issues. You are welcome to ask me questions as well about my practice. The first session is all about having a safe, relaxed environment to start building a therapeutic alliance. We do this work together.
I believe my biggest strengths are helping people find balance. Helping them to unravel the tangled thoughts and feelings that are causing them stress. Once we find stability, my absolute favorite part of therapy is showing clients how to see themselves with kind, loving eyes. We are all deserving of love and kindness. We are deserving of joy, connection, and a meaningful life. If this speaks to you, if you want to learn how to move forward in life with more self love, acceptance and a little humor, we might be a good fit.

The basics of CBT is understanding that our thoughts influence our feelings which directly impacts our actions and behaviors.
Psychodynamic therapy focuses on subconscious and conscious thoughts, desires, developmental impacts, and formative relationships. Think of this as the deeper issues we look at. Focus is also on the process of therapy, and the inter relationship between client and therapist.
How we show up in the world and to others can be an important reflection of how we are perceived. Utilizing this approach focuses on the way one shows up repeatedly over time in their relationships.
Much of our suffering and emotional pain can be traced back to traumatic experiences. When this is the case, understanding how the brain and body respond, how this impacted our development and relationships is crucial to understanding the issues at hand. With this knowledge we can utilize a variety of techniques to help understand, process and come to terms with our past. Often this involves psycho-education on brain structures and trauma responses and compass and curiosity to help move into our less reactive wiser mind.
Clients guide their healing and care. We as clinicians bring our training and clinical expertise to walk with you down your path of growth and healing. Person centered care, or client centered, keeps our focus on you as the expert.
