(she/her)
I empower those struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, low self-worth, life transitions, disordered eating & trauma using a variety of therapies. I'm bilingual and come from a refugee/immigrant background which helps me see the suffering in people with clarity. I pride myself in practicing compassionate, nonjudgmental, and collaborative approaches to help you feel seen and heard. You are welcome to show up exactly who you are.
I like to provide psycho-education and help name the things you're going through so that it's less scary and confusing. I give you control and responsibility over your situation. Through warmth, space, validation, and gentle challenging, you can walk away feeling confident about our collaboration, and just uncomfortable enough to make changes in your life. I like to I give homework weekly: something to reflect on beyond our session, journal prompts, practice a coping skill or a behavior change, a worksheet, or simply tracking your moods for our next session.
I find it most helpful when I am my authentic self: warm, charming, witty, but at times don't have it all together; knowledgeable but not intimidating. Additionally, I pride myself in being ethical, structured, progress oriented, and open to feedback.
Adults (18+) who are highly motivated for self-improvement and development, open-minded, willing and can practice mindfulness.
Other specialties
I identify as
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
CBT helps to develop change by observing and reframing negative thoughts that could be impacting mood and behaviors. This approach also encourages engagement in activities to improve mood and influence thoughts positively. Core beliefs are also challenged, and new beliefs will be installed. Lastly, this approach instills that idea of building tolerance towards uncomfortable thoughts or emotions by sitting in it, monitoring the intensity, and recognizing resilience.
Cognitive Processing (CPT)
CPT is a manualized treatment for PTSD and trauma-related concerns, which helps to develop healthy thinking patterns about the effects of trauma(s) without requiring a detailed trauma account. It is another form of CBT with a specific focus on trauma.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
DBT consists of skills from 4 pillars: mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance and interpersonal effectiveness. This approach can help to manage big feelings, reduce self-harming behaviors and suicidal ideation, and have improved relationships. Originally created for people with borderline personality disorder but is now highly effective for various types of concerns.
EMDR
I am EMDR-trained pursuing certification. This modality targets big "T" and little "t" traumas as well as general distress using bilateral stimulation with the eyes or tapping. "Processing" in EMDR means setting up a learning state that will allow experiences causing problems to be "digested" and stored appropriately in the brain. Inappropriate emotions, beliefs, and body sensations will be discarded.
