Hello. I am Carla, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Texas. I completed my graduate degree in counseling in 2012. Before becoming fully licensed as a professional counselor, I was a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor. I have had the privilege of serving a variety of populations over the years. My hope is to create a safe space for emotional development and healing.
During the first session, I focus on establishing a genuine therapeutic relationship and familiarizing clients with the process of counseling.
Clients tell me that they feel like I am showing them a true version of myself even as a counselor. They say that it makes me relatable and easy to talk to. Parents and guardians of the children I work with like that I customize activities so that their child is interested and engaged in the process of learning to manage big emotions, problem-solve, and talk about hard things.
I have a passion for working with school and college age individuals. They experience so much personal growth, change, and transition in a very short amount of time that it can become overwhelming.
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is the foundation of my theoretical approach to counseling. CBT is an evidence-based treatment based on the idea that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are relaled to each other.
Integrative therapy allows me to blend elements different treatment models with CBT. As a result, I can customize my counseling approach to meet your specific goals, values, and needs.
