Hannah Sullivan

LCSW (she/her)5 years of experience

No two people are the same and neither are two journeys. Whether this is your first time stepping into therapy, or an opportunity to get reacquainted with therapy, I am here to meet you where you are on whatever point it is you're on your journey. I strive to ensure a collaborative therapeutic relationship with a willingness and ability to adapt to your unique needs. I am ready to meet you, walk alongside you, and support you along your desired path.

First session

In our first session, we will begin the foundation of building rapport and trust within our therapeutic relationship that will support your therapeutic journey. I will want to gain a better understanding of why you are seeking therapy, as well as any previous experience in therapeutic settings, whether no previous experiences, or positive/negative experiences. Overall, it will help me better understand your baseline coming into therapy, and what you would like to achieve. Our first session is not just a chance for me to get you know you, but you know me. I understand coming to therapy, even if not for the first time, can be intimidating. Coming into a vulnerable space is not inherently comfortable so I want to hold space for that and further explore any hesitations you may have seeking therapy.

Strengths

Building a trusting, judgement-free, collaborative therapeutic relationship is something I prioritize in our sessions. I come into every session ready to utilize reflective listening and clarifying questions to ensure you feel heard and understood. It also gives you the opportunity to explore your reactions and feelings to both observations that resonate with you, but also provide feedback about what doesn't. This is your therapy and your goals. I am here to support you in not only identifying and prioritizing your goals, but provide an empowering space that invites you to advocate for your wants and needs in therapy. Using a trauma-informed, strength-based approach, I utilize a mix of modalities with prominent influences from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and solution-focused therapy. By using a wide-range of therapeutic styles, I am able to individually tailor sessions to be the most meaningful and beneficial to each person's desired path. I invite feedback throughout your therapeutic journey to ensure therapy is a helpful and safe space for you.

Ideal clients

Going through a life transition or recent loss? Processing trauma, or have been diagnosed with an anxiety and/or depressive disorder? Wanting to increase skills in emotion regulation? Develop tools to cope with daily stressors? Increase your ability to implement and maintain boundaries? Build skills in healthy communication? Something else? I am here to support you and empower you to develop a toolbox of skills and knowledge that are not only there to help you achieve your goals, but feel prepared to maintain the progress you are wanting.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy focuses on identifying the relationship between our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. This approach provides support in understanding some of the ways we may think, feel, and behave, in order to address challenges in our lives.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy focuses on dialectics, holding two opposing truths at once finding a balance. DBT also uses mindfulness, intentional focus on the here and now. DBT has many tools that provide support in emotional regulation and interpersonal communication skills.

Psychodynamic

Psychodynamic Therapy supports people in understanding how past experiences and underlying emotions/thoughts impact your current functioning. It provides the opportunity to process past experiences that may be causing distress in current day-to-day functioning and relationships with others.

Motivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing is a collaborative therapeutic style that relies heavily on reflective listening and open-ended questions. It allows me to ensure I am not just hearing you, but understanding you, and empowers you to make the changes you are truly wanting.
