Meghan Schmidt
Hello! My name is Meghan! Im so glad you're here! I want to first acknowledge your first step toward you wanting to better yourself. I strive to see individuals show up authentically themselves in all areas of life and I create a space where that can be explored without judgement. I use CBT, strengths-based and Motivational Interviewing, as well as a systematic approach within my practice.
First session
An initial session with me will be intake-driven, where we focus on introductions, information gathering, establishing a baseline and the goals that you want to work toward.
Strengths
I am direct and believe in challenging my clients but in a laid back way. I like to provide a calm, chill space in order to do the work we set out to do.
Ideal clients
For individual therapy, I work with individuals who are experiencing anxiety, depression, change in relationship dynamics and emotional dysregulation, often as a result of past trauma or life transitions. Some of the groups Ive work with in the past have been individuals struggling with addiction, parents/caregivers navigating the new world around them, and those dealing with the everyday stressors of life.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
The way i utilize CBT is first recognizing what our thought patterns are and how we got where we are. We would work on recognizing the thought, then challenging it. Next we would focus on the behavior that follows that maladaptive thought and aim to replace it with a healthier behavior.
Motivational Interviewing
In using Motivational Interviewing, I see it as a whole collaboration and that we work side-by-side to achieve the goals you want for yourself. Change is hard and this approach allows more of a partnership is tackling uncomfortable feelings.
