I am Karen Patterson, a licensed Clinical Social Worker in North Carolina with 21 years of Clinical experience. I believe that you are the expert on your story and that you have many strengths that will assist you in overcoming things that challenge you. Taking the first step to sign up for therapy can take courage and I am proud of you for getting started. During our therapy sessions, you will learn new things, including lessons about emotions, thoughts, coping skills, facing fears and more. We will be developing a plan of action and setting goals. Each session is essentially a problem-solving session while exploring your thoughts and feelings. I will be able to interpret the information you give and show empathy as I look at your situation from your perspective to understand your experience. I am an active listener and provide a safe and calm environment so you can move closer to having the life you wish to work toward accomplishing.
Focus for the first session is to create a safe and welcome space where you feel comfortable. We will spend time processing your goals for therapy and building a foundation for trust.
