Hi! I'm Shelly. I grew up in Michigan and completed my doctorate at the Illinois School of Professional Psychology in Chicago in 2004. I have over 20 years of experience working with people of all ages with all sorts of issues. I help adults with anxiety, OCD and life transitions feel better quickly. Some life transitions that I help with can include adjusting to college, graduating and starting a career, marriage, career change, and having children to name a few of the areas that I help with.
The first session is when we get to know each other. I will give you space to talk while asking you questions to help clarify what you are hoping to get out of therapy. Together we will develop a plan towards you feeling some relief from the stress you have been under. Treatment varies by individual, but sessions are focused on gaining insight into your thoughts, feelings and actions. Within a CBT framework, you will develop an understanding of the relationship between your thoughts, feelings and behavior and make changes that are lasting.
Having worked with kids and adults of all ages, I have learned to be an attentive listener who can put you at ease quickly so that you can focus on YOU. I am accepting and nonjudgmental, providing a space where you can be yourself, explore, learn and grow.
I use a CBT approach helping clients to understand the relationship between their thoughts, feelings and actions. By changing our thoughts we can feel differently and act in new ways.
