Hi! I am a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC) based out of Florida. I have been counseling clients for over 27 years. I earned a Masters degree from the University of North Florida in 1997 in Counseling and also hold a Masters in Education from the University of South Carolina earned in 1984. I have worked both in the public and private sectors with clients of varying ages to include children, teenagers, adults, couples, and families. Over the years, my major areas of focus have been working with adolescents in crisis, addressing issues surrounding addictions and substance use, and helping adults and young people work through depression, anxiety, grief and loss issues, and trauma. Together, we will gently explore any areas you want to address and help you become the best version of yourself.
I strive to create a welcoming, safe environment that gives clients the opportunity to share openly and to gently explore the barriers and obstacles that are holding them back. By addressing concerns through time-tested techniques and problem solving strategies utilized within a safe and affirming environment, clients are able to explore issues and focus on personal development, growth, and change. Together, we will identify the challenges you are facing and your personal goals on both a short-term and a long-term basis. Next, we will come up with an action plan that defines strategies and approaches you can use to reach your goals. As a team, we will hold each other accountable and be proactive in addressing any concerns or implementing your suggestions and as they arise.
Experience matters when counseling clients. My many years in the field have allowed me to help clients with a variety of unique concerns and issues using specific approaches and techniques that provide proven results. I have worked extensively with adolescents and families who are in crisis or are struggling to connect with others or family members. Another major area of strength is my experience in addressing substance use issues and addictions with clients. I also work with issues such as depression, anxiety, and dealing with major life challenges with my clients. I focus first on listening and creating a safe, therapeutic space. Within this environment, we can explore your concerns and build on your strengths to develop a concrete plan centered around evidence-based techniques. Together, we will put the plan into action and adjust it as needed to get you real, measurable results!
I’ve been using CBT in my practice for over twenty-five years now. It’s helped many of my clients challenge troubling thoughts and manage their anxiety and depression. Together, we'll use CBT to recognize how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors influence each other. We’ll then use that the skills and knowledge gained to change your thinking patterns, which will help you lead a more joyful, less anxious life.
I believe in dealing with client issues and concerns from a strength-based approach. By identifying with and emphasizing your strengths, we will focus on positive aspects and use those strengths to empower you in dealing with any areas that may be causing you difficulty.
In our work together, we will look at your goals and challenges, considering where you want your life to be in terms of both short-term and long-term goals and priorities. Next, we'll explore opportunities, strategies, and approaches to help get you where you want to be.
