I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Master's in Counseling Psychology from Chestnut Hill College and 30 years of experience across diverse settings. My preferred therapeutic approaches include Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I am open-minded and respectful, believing that everyone is doing their best within their unique circumstances. I strive to create a safe and supportive space where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered to navigate life's challenges.
In your first session, I will focus on understanding your concerns and getting a clear picture of the challenges you're facing. I will also take time to learn about your personal history to better understand your unique circumstances. After this, I will explain the different therapeutic approaches I use, such as EMDR, IFS, and CBT, and how they might be helpful to address your specific needs. Together we will begin to develop a plan tailored to your goals and personal growth.
My greatest strength as a provider comes from my personal journey. I experienced firsthand how transformative therapy can be when I worked with a skilled therapist who helped me make meaningful changes in my life. That experience sparked my passion for helping others heal and deepened my understanding of the therapeutic process. Additionally, overcoming my challenge with nicotine addiction and choosing not to drink due to a strong family history of addiction has given me insight into the process of change and resilience. I continue to strengthen my skills through coursework in my areas of interest, ensuring that I stay current and effective in my practice
I work best with clients who are motivated to create change in their lives and are open to exploring new approaches to healing. I also understand that not everyone feels fully ready to change when they begin their therapy, but even if a small part seriously recognizes the need to take that step, it's helpful. I am here to support clients wherever they are in their journey toward growth and transformation.
I was trained in EMDR in 2011 and have used it to help clients process trauma and navigate difficult life circumstances. Grief and loss, life changing physical injuries or illnesses, survivors of sexual trauma, significant work-related stress are some of the areas that I have helped people with.
I was trained in Cognitive Therapy through the Beck Program in 2015. My focus was helping individuals in Philadelphia with addiction problems. Cognitive therapy is effective for exploring core beliefs held at a subconscious level--beliefs that maybe untrue or unhelpful. These beliefs can significantly impact behavior, causing them to act as if the beliefs are true. I have used this approach to help clients address self-esteem issues and specific fears that may be holding them back, empowering them to challenge unproductive thought patterns and create healthier ways of thinking and acting.
I was recently trained in Internal Family Systems, a method I integrate effectively with EMDR. IFS helps clients explore parts of themselves that have developed to hold pain or cope with trauma. While these parts may have been helpful in the past, they can sometimes interfere with present-day functioning. By exploring and listening to these parts, I guide clients in transforming them into more supportive and helpful aspects of their identity, enabling personal growth and a greater sense of wholeness.
